I still feel like And I Darken was so incredible that I think just everything else has kind of paled in comparison? Guinevere is sent to protect Arthur from some unknown threat that we don't find out about until the last 30 pages when everything is crammed in there. Eh.

I have picked up this book three different times to try and finish it but I just get bored. The story and plot are moving so slowly and so little information is being shared. I couldn't even finish it all the way. I gave up when I realized it was the first in a trilogy.

I'm giving this 2 stars because it really is an interesting premise and the magic is intriguing but it's just so slow!

Btw, the kinda hinted love interest with Mordred was totally unexpected and one of the only reasons I kept reading. Lol

This book was so intriguing and had such beautiful prose, but unfortunately it was a little dull and boring. It started out really well, with introducing an eye-catching secret and maintaining it throughout the book, only subtly hinting at it. It definitely did its job and caught my attention, but that was pretty much it. I didn’t connect with the characters, it all felt rather distant. And pacing was slow and nothing really happened in the book itself. But the world and the concept of the story was so interesting. I like the authors twist she put on Arthurian legend. Maybe it was the writing style or just the book itself but I didn’t really find myself enjoying it that much. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat or biting my nails. I wasn’t trying to figure out or guess the coming scenes and plot twists. I merely just listened to it. Which isn’t a bad thing, but I didn’t really find myself excited to read it. It finally got interesting at the very end so I will continue the series to see what happens next, since it does end on a cliff hanger. But it was a pleasant and easy read overall.

A fun retelling of elements of Arthurian legend with feminist "twists." I like how the real heroes and greatest battles are women vs women. I enjoyed reading something a little more light in tone of Kiersten White.

Pros: Wonderful book! The story was very intriguing and I really enjoyed it! I highly recommend this! It was cool that Lancelot was female, and I liked the descriptions of the magic being used. Guinevere didn't know the whole truth, but she did the best she could.
Cons: It seemed a bit repetitive at times, because Guinevere was so obsessed with protecting Arthur. Every little thing was seen as a possible threat to Arthur, and it made her seem a bit paranoid.
