I'm not entirely sure what it is with me and contemporary maffia series. Those first books always grab me. They give me some kind of adrenaline rush and I just can't stop reading. Everything about that first book fascinates me. The world, the characters, the darkness, the intrige, the political games, the roughness. And then comes the second book. And for some reason I'm always super excited, but it just doesn't give me the same feeling. This also happened with this arc.

For some reason this second book didn't grab me the same way as the first and it's hard to explain why. Maybe it's because the newness is gone, but maybe it's the second book syndrome. The first book introduced the world, the players and the stakes. In the second book we're diving more into the developing relationships and we're slowly making our way to some big reveal that will then start the next book in the series.

What I liked about this book, is that we learn a little more about the guys. We get to see more of what they do when they're not with our heroine and we learn a little about the world they're coming from. I feel like there's a lot more to tell, especially since in this book not many new surprises have come to light. I do have to admit though that Jude really intrigues me. And it's hard to say why, because it's not like he's such a nice guy. On the contrary. I don't trust him. At all.

While reading this second book I also had a lot of questions and consequently quite a few guesses about reveals I was expecting to come. I don't feel like the book is really answering those, but it did work in getting me excited about the next book in the series. I feel like we've gathered quite some information in this second book, even though that wasn't always too exciting. I can't wait to see how our heroine is gonna make the pieces of the puzzle fit. Well, if she makes it past that cliffhanger, of course!

  • so this was the sequel to Bloody Princess and i have to say, i was a bit disappointed
  • although the FMC Lyric had been pretty smart and badass in the last one, while she was still pretty badass in this she was a lot less smart
  • like you know when you're watching a horror movie and want to yell at the dummy who is walking toward the monster about to get killed to RUN THE OTHER FUCKING WAY? that was what reading this book was like honestly
  • like Lyric's sister Melody kept having her do things that were obviously going to just make things SO MUCH WORSE for her but she did them anyway and of course they blew up in her face
  • the MMCs were stll pretty clueless dicks in this that let fucked shit happen to her
  • and omg Lyric joins the sorority at college to try and figure more secrets out and the hazing she experiences is AWFUL and the guys just LET IT HAPPEN
  • like she also after getting almost assaulted by this guy then has sex with one of the MMCs against a tree rather than fucking PROCESSING IT like wtf ???????
  • and the hazing gets so so bad and everything just starts to go more downhill and Jude starts treating her EVEN WORSE and i wanted to figure out the mystery but also things were getting more and more crazy
  • by the end i felt pretty reluctant to continue but decided i'd give it a little bit more of a chance even though shit was getting pretty miserable all around

Oh damn are thing's coming to a head in this book as this is Bk2 where Lyric is trying to figure out of her sisters 4 best friends Jude, Thayer, Atlas, Keats who was responsible for her sisters death, but she's running into doubt's the longer she's around them. This book was so effn good I couldn't put it down the whole time I'd tell myself to stop at this chapter and then something would happen ugh the struggle was real

I'm loving getting to see our leading lady grow as this story continues and make a path of her own.
The story really does grip you more and more as it goes on and I don't think it could get any more brilliant.
The guys are great and I love how they interact with lyrics, melody is really giving me a feeling that she's up to or hiding something.
Cant wait to see how the plot of this series will play out.

Okay, I'm starting to get more answers and things are also starting to pick up. I definitely hate some people and still need to know more.

i liked this book better than the first!
the pacing in my opinion is a lot better, and we get to know more about the guys and about lyrics background.
it’s a bit darker than book 1 but i wouldn’t say it was intensely dark, there’s not much that you read on page it’s mainly implied.

So reading this book confirms it: Lyric is a bad bitch and Melody's a freaking cunt.
I like the plot/story but I feel like we are still too much in the dark about everything. We don't know that much more than we did at the beginning and it is really starting to frustrate me! The only thing that is starting to develop is her relationship with the MMCs and again, only 2 1/2 of the 4...
I didn't know this was an unfinished story when I started this so I think my frustration is only going to grow... I have so many questions!!!
