This book just gave me all the feels. Not your typical romance and it left me guessing how it would end. Loved the alternating timelines with flashbacks to past birthdays. Reminds me a bit of Georgie All Along.

Hard to keep track of various timeliness in an audiobook format. Characters are more aggravating than relatable.

The book started out really promising! I was really enjoying the main character. but then at about 40% in it started feeling a bit bland. The dual time lines for the audiobook was hard to tell when they switched so it was hard to keep when and which love interest we were reading about.
as for the romance it fell flat, it wasn't really enough pinning or connection between any of them.
the ending made the entire book feel kinda pointless, I understand the message the book is trying to show but its pitched as a romance book so I would expect it to have more romantic elements in it.
I'm disappointed, the blurb made it sound like a book I would have loved but unfortunately it was a miss for me.
as always thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

This book honestly really irked me. I found the main character's inability to take accountability for her actions truly galling (she does not do nearly enough introspection or feel nearly enough guilt about emotionally cheating on her partners with Garrett for more than a decade and about Garrett physically cheating with her), and the writing style felt incredibly overwrought to me (I get that Maggie has synthesia, but there's really no excuse for the number of adjectives in this book). I didn't really understand Maggie's draw to Garrett besides the fact that she was incredibly attracted to him, and the relationship felt pretty toxic given that they could never communicate. But on the other hand, Asher felt entirely too perfect, and their relationship felt too easy. I was mostly annoyed by Maggie, and I couldn't really follow the different timelines. Overall, this was a miss for me.
The ending really sealed the deal for me that this was a three-star book for me at best. A lot of Maggie's personal storyline is that she really wants kids and will have a very hard time getting pregnant, and we're supposed to believe that she's never discussed the topic of kids with Asher after months and months with him and talking about spending the rest of their lives together??? I could just not get my head around that, especially considering Maggie had just seen her best friend's marriage end because one of them wanted kids and the other didn't. She never even asked Garrett whether he wanted kids before deciding that Asher was the one for her! And it was so clearly the first and only time that she and Asher had ever discussed kids, and they broke up after ten minutes of talking. Truly, truly baffling. And then four years later he just shows up and has changed his mind and they fall right back into it? Ick and ick. /spoiler>
