the protagonist, maggie, pmo soooo much she was MESSY but ultimately did what we had to do for herself which i appreciate. having two men pine after you/be just as in love and obsessed with them and cant do anything ab it for more than 10+ years would probably make me act insane also. overall enjoyed this, but some parts of the plot were dry/didnt connect for me. Loved that the center of the love story was ab ppl in their mid/late thirties, no timeline! On! Love!
Moderate: Sexual assault, Sexual harassment

really loved how this started but my interest tapered a bit when it seemed like every conflict was resolved at 75% and remaining time left was filler.
but the parts i did enjoy:
— yearningggg oh how i love a story where they yearn!! everyone’s yearning in this yum yum yum!
— a down bad fmc. bc same 🙃 i too make up scenarios abt how everyone i interact with is in love with me…SUE ME
— nyc setting (if you’re familiar with me at all, you KNOW i devour an nyc set romance)
things i didn’t love:
— garrett scholl becoming the biggest bitch ass there ever was. i was rooting for you!! you could’ve been so great 😩 his actions & decisions made me so angry (not that the fmc is entirely without fault) but bruh, how are you gonna fumble so hard for SO LONG?! when he finally does act on his feelings, it’s the WORST imaginable time and i just wanted him gone.
— not enough time with asher despite him being the childhood love reunited at last for a second chance. i wanted to like him so much more but he felt like a shadow in this story and much less tangible than garrett (who we must note again is a no good piece of shit 😃)
while romance definitely plays the most central theme to this, i’d say this could also fall heavily into the women’s lit category as well! lots of thoughtful commentary on feminism, equality, and motherhood.
cw: infertility, sexual assault, gaslighting
narrator slayed this so brava to katherine littrell 🫶🏻 would love to listen to more narrations from her.

This would’ve been a 5 star read if it ended differently.. there was the perfect opening for such a beautiful ending and it just didn’t happen. This was still beautifully written and I enjoyed it immensely.

I feel like I just wasted my time. I thought the FMC had learned and grown, but the end just undid it all. Someone has this audiobook on hold after me and I feel the strong desire to tell them to skip it. Would definitely add to my list of "good concept, horrible execution."
