I heard a lot of hype about Trick Mirror when it was published but I never got the appeal of it. Because the book was named in one of my favourite podcasts, DAMN HONEY, and because it was available on Storytel, I have it a listen. And I really enjoyed most of the essays. I loved hoe Jia Tolentino wrote and narrated the book!

Definitely recommend it if you love feminist essays.

"Trick Mirror" by Jia Tolentino is like a hall of mirrors at a funhouse - you'll find yourself reflecting on society, culture, and your own existence, but with a twist of humor and plenty of wit that keeps it light.

Reading this book is like going on a rollercoaster ride through the absurdity of life. Buckle up and get ready for a ride that'll leave you questioning everything from social media and beauty standards to politics, fraud, and rape culture.

This is not your typical page-turner; it's more like a series of scholarly articles infused with the sass of your funniest friend. Attempting to binge-read it in a couple of days would be like trying to down a gallon of artisanal ice cream in one sitting – you might end up feeling a bit overwhelmed and slightly queasy. Instead, savor each chapter like a fine wine.

Take your time to reflect, laugh, and maybe even shed a tear or two as you navigate through the maze of absurdities she so brilliantly dissects.

2 // This was unnecessary. Like really, the entire time I sat reading this *ULTRA HYPED* "hot girl book pick" I was left blank faced and bored because WHAT WAS THERE TO EXCITE MOI?!

None of the insights were particularly fresh or unheard of or even basic but so beautifully written we just forget about it.

The book was mostly just comprised of references to random pop culture names or events that the majority of the planet is already VERY WELL familiar with and with a side of sparse and overdone comments that just echo the general consensus we already have as readers.

I hate to give such popular books low remarks because I firmly believe in a very “to each their own” mindset when it comes to reading tastes, but for me, this book left me with not much of anything except a desire to move on to something better.
