What a book! This book is so special.  I was there, with the characters, feeling their emotions, smiling with them, smelling the food, feeling their love.  And I cried several times.  Absolutely in my top 3 of the year, if not in 1st place. I loved this book! I will read anything Tara Stringfellow writes.

The North family are at the centre of this beautiful story about love and loyalty between Black women, the generational trauma that persists in Black communities, and the complexities associated with the manifestation of that trauma, particularly in the Black men around them. Though sometimes difficult to read, Memphis is moving in its empathy and it's a joy to follow the female narrators on their journey. I was really excited to read this book, which can sometimes lead to disappointment, but it delivered wonderfully.

An interesting story, though full of trauma that unfortunately falls to the women of the family to work on healing. Not a casual read.
