The best book of Greek mythology I have ever read. It had every story I have ever heard. I also really like that Mrs. Hamilton recorded two Norse legends in the back of the book. Interesting trivia about Edith Hamilton: she could read Greek before she was ten.

Probably more like 4.5 but I'm feeling generous. This gives a sweeping account of the primary Greek myths, Nordic myths, and other relevant stories. It's detailed yet not boring and it draws on the actual stories of many of the poets. It's great to have a nearly complete picture in this way since patterns begin to stand out. The author also organizes the materials well.

The text also is quite funny in places, it becomes almost easy to predict the endings of some of the stories. Really worth it if this is an area of interest.

Edith Hamilton's Mythology covered the bases very well of what everyone who wants a basic knowledge of the gods of Greek/Roman mythology and also of all the major heroes and epic stories. Almost everything is covered in a basic format and much of what I know of Greek mythology came from this book. I felt like the descriptions of the gods were a bit dry at times, but once it went into the heroes and summaries of some of the classic stories like Perseus and Medusa, the feats of Hercules, the Iliad, the Aeneid, and the Argonautica it really sparked my interest. This is a book that everyone should read if they lack knowledge of Greek Mythology.

This was my bible for many years

the order of things was all out of wack, still good
tho

Better than Bullfinch

Great chance to revise all my Greek mythology knowledge... alphabetically :D
Not awfully relevant but I can't express how much I appreciate the VNmese version by Nguyen Van Khoa I read close to two decades ago. So rich in detail, so vibrant, the prose so beautiful it's just really hard to find another mythology read that comes close to such standard imo.
