Hunger Games meets Divergent but with magical skills! The natural classism that comes from skills and nots creates such a solid foundation for a revolutionary tale and it was not as predictable as I thought it was, even while reading it!
Great for those who like their fantasy with less dragons and fairies and more skills as well as high stakes conflict.
Mare is a great FMC who is complicated and lives in the grey area too and while romance is a small part of it, it doesn’t play nearly the role you would expect either.

This book was very good, and lived up to the hype for me. I really enjoyed the abilities of all of the Silvers (plus Mare) and I got caught up in court life very quickly. I LOVE Mare, her character and devotion to her family and bloodline is very cool, but perhaps my favorite thing about her is the earrings she wears for her brother. I thought that was so cute and so awesome! I am a huge fan of both of the princes, they both have nicely developed and complex characters. I can’t wait to read more about Mare, her brothers and Gisa, and the royal family.

Interesting book indeed. Started off reminding me of the Hunger Games but ended off with it feeling like Shatter Me. I'm excited to see where the rest of the series goes.

I first read this when it came out in my early twenties, and was a little worried a reread in my early thirties (after forgetting basically all of it) would change my opinion but I was pleasantly surprised at how well this held up. The plot moves quickly but without compromising Aveyard’s incredible world building skills. The characters are young and figuring out the world around them without being so naive they become unrelatable. THE PLOT TWIST GOT ME AGAIN. It’s a really easy, enjoyable read that I’m very glad I came back to.

I enjoyed the book, it feels like a Hunger Games type series. Kinda predictable (with a little twist thrown in) Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
