Es ist wirklich ein außergewöhnliches Buch im Bereich Young Adult und deshalb war es schon sehr erfrischend. Ich mochte die Atmosphäre sehr und der Schreibstil ist wirklich wunderschön. Ich habe diesen Schreibstil und Erzählstil sehr geliebt, und ist für mich wirklich das was am meisten heraussticht an diesem Buch. Ich mochte auch den Schlussteil sehr. Es war rasant, es ging wirklich was ab und die Protagonistin Ophelia kam mal auch sich heraus. Da hatte ich auch Spaß beim Lesen gehabt. Den Anfang mochte ich auch noch, weil Ophelias Welt so interessant war.
Nun zu den negativen Sachen. Ich fand ja Ophelias Welt wirklich interessant und sowas in der Art habe ich noch nicht gelesen. ... Nur leider war man nicht lange dort und konnte somit nicht mehr über diese Welt erfahren. Schade an sich, weil die Welt danach eher typisch YA-Fantasy war. Nichts groß Neues. Das kannte man schon als erfahrene Leserin.
Die Protagonistin (und eigentlich fast alle Charaktere) wirkten nicht sympathisch, was ich schon schade finde. Thorn und Ophelia sind ziemlich ungewöhnlich vom Charakter her, aber ich konnte für kein wirklich Sympathie hegen. Erst am Ende mochte ich Ophelia etwas mehr, aber es ist nicht wirklich so, dass ich mit ihr mitfühle.
Was ich übrigens sehr nervig fand, dass die Autorin jedesmal - wirklich verdammt jedesmal - erwähnen musste, wie schlaksig und groß Thorn ist, wenn er auftauchte. Ich habe es schon beim ersten Mal verstanden und muss es nicht noch mal tausend Mal hören. Schön, dass er anders aussieht als andere, aber ich muss es nicht 300 mal hören. Dazu wurde auch ganz oft erwähnt, wie klein Ophelia auch ist. Die Autorin liebt wohl Wiederholungen ... ich nicht wirklich.
Das World-Building war ... nicht wirklich gut. Ich weiß nicht, was für eine Welt die Autorin erschaffen wollte. Am Anfang wirkte es schon wie High-Fantasy und ich würde auch sagen, es ist High-Fantasy, aber dann kommen einfach Begriffe aus unserer Welt, wie "Monat Dezember" und ich bin dann somit komplett raus aus der Geschichte. Es könnte auch angehen, dass es in der Zukunft spielt und unsere Welt eben zu deren Welt wurde. Es wurde auch ein paar "Alte Welt" erwähnt, aber wenn es wirklich das ist, finde ich es nicht so gut gemacht.
Nun zur Geschichte selbst. Ich habe kein Plan, was das Buch mir sagen will und warum ich den zweiten Teil lesen sollte. Die Geschichte hat nicht wirklich ein "Ziel" und plätschert eher sich vor hin. Ich glaube, die Autorin hatte mehr Fokus darauf, dass alles so außergewöhnlich sein sollte - was, es auch auf jeden Fall ist, - aber die ganzen Elemente sind nicht wirklich gut ausgereift. Die Details und Genauigkeit fehlen. Da waren auch kleine Logikfehlern, aber bei YA bin ich das mittlerweile gewöhnt. Die gehören wohl dazu.
Ich bin mir auch noch unsicher, ob ich die Reihe weiterlesen will. Die Autorin hat mir nicht wirklich einen Grund dafür gegeben. Es ist nur mein innerer Monk, der aufschreit, ich muss Reihen beenden, aber ganz ehrlich momentan zieht es mich nicht dazu den zweiten Teil zu lesen. Vielleicht irgendwann mal, aber jetzt auf jeden Fall nicht.

I won't lie, this was almost a DNF about halfway through. The first half of the book is slow, with very little happening. The main character is soft spoken and weak, just going along with what she's told to do. I'm very glad I stuck with it because the story really picks up later in the book, so much so I had trouble putting it down. Waiting on the next book to arrive at my doorstep now, let's hope it keeps up the accelerated pace present at the end of this one.

This book... I really don't know what to say.
I will make this short since it is so late. I can critique the writing style just because it is translated, so that wouldn't be fair. But I found the beginning to be so dang boring. It dragged on and on until about the halfway point, and even then it didn't grip my attention.
The premise is very interesting and maybe I will give the next book a shot, who knows at this point.
I really did not connect with the characters. I don't think I liked a single one, just because I didn't know a single one. I really felt a disconnect with this book. I was expecting to love it, but it really fell short.
Maybe the series gets better? Maybe the second installment will be on my TBR soon enough.

this was one of the strangest books I’ve read. The worldbuilding reminded me of His Dark Materials but with more randomness and whimsy than calculated criticism. Many of the important plot points seemingly came out of nowhere, as if made up as the author went along. A lot of the dialogue and syntax was clunky, which could be the translation, but it wasn’t great nevertheless.
All the characters were terrible people. Like actually terrible; both the protagonists and antagonists, doing and saying horrible things to each other. They’re all incredibly misogynistic for some reason. I didn’t know what to think, though at least Thorn grew on me by the end. “My Treasury needs me”— he’s hilarious. Ophelia was an okay protagonist, but nearly as unlikeable as everybody else. The beginning was especially tough as I oriented myself through the worldbuilding and strange voice of this world, which wasn’t really helped by how solitary the narrator was.
I may keep reading just to see where this goes bc WOW. At least now I’ve started to appreciate the disorienting vibe, though I don’t know if it is intentional or not.
