Thinly disguised romance novel and a fun read!

After reading the first book in this series I was eager to read the second and even more so when I realized that Mary was initially the mistress of the king. I found that I wanted to read more to find out how Anne ended up as the queen. But as it took chapters and chapters to get anywhere I got bored. Although I persevered and finished the book and found the ending to be quite good and captivating, the middle of the book was unnecessarily dragged out. I must say the first book I found much better than this one, and I would be reluctant to read any others in this series.

I genuinely enjoyed this book! Will be looking for some more Philippa Gregory books at the local used book store soon.

Loved this book. I hated putting it down.

This story was brilliant, took me through every stage of Mary Boleyn life, was a page turner, and I was up most of the night finding out what was going to happen to her. I will not spoil the story for anyone. But this was great, sad and a page turner.
If you like Tudor history, then get this book. A well told tale, and in great detail as if she was watching it all go on.

I watched the film afterwards. NOt recomended at all...It paled in comparison!

Very interesting and well written. Can't wait to read some of her other books.

I am surprised I liked this book as much as I did. Namely, I really like historical fiction, but usually I don't get too into this time period. This book is clearly fiction, but is based upon true historical events. I wish there was a little more clarification on the fabrications or more on the actual history in the author's notes, but anything I wanted to know, I was able to easily look up online. My only real complaint is that the timing was a bit odd. Sometimes a summer would be pages and pages, while other times, seasons were skipped all together. This made reading a little awkward at times (ex. "why is it Christmas already, it was just Christmas 8 pages ago"). Otherwise it is a well known tale that was written well.

Overall a fun read, a rated R version of King Henry VIII's court, with great stretches of imagination instead of verifiable fact.

This is not a modern classic, the characters weren't very complex and the writing was just okay. However, this book was very enjoyable and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a somewhat intelligent beach/subway read.
