When I went into this book, it was with really low expectations. I was borrowing it from a friend who wanted me to check it out for the fun of it. All I wanted was a cheesy Christian romance/thriller (which I NEVER read), and that’s what I got.

Did it get a bit cringey on occasion? Yes.

Were some moments REALLY cheesy? Yes.

Did I have fun? Absolutely.

It was a light little read in a genre I never touch, and it actually impressed me in a few ways. In particular, what I had dreaded was the Christian element. I like books that bring in faith in subtle, nuanced ways that bring the point across without preaching and talking down to me or trying to simplify what faith actually is. I had expected this book to be preachy as all heck, but it actually wasn’t. Where a couple things were a bit on the nose, I found that I didn’t cringe every time someone tried to talk about Christianity, and I really appreciated it.

Overall, fun little read. Nice to dabble in something different.

Too preachy and  dramatic. Similar to the “Gods not dead” movies.

Excellent book. Great characters and plot. I can't wait for more. I enjoyed the discussion of religion and the Bible.

Read this solely for the RPL reading challenge. This was never going to be my kind of book, but it also wasn't very well-written.

Danger in the Shadows (the prequel to this series) has always been my favorite, but each time I read the Negotiator, it grows on me a little more. What's not to love about Dave and Kate? Because we get to know so much about Dave in the prequel, it gives us more time to meet Kate. She is such a unique and complex heroine. The faced paced action in this book will keep you guessing until the very end. The tenacity with which the investigation is handled, feels so authentic. Henderson was so before her time when writing these, and I think that is what has made them timeless favorites with many who read them.

In continuing my re-read month, I picked up this book from my past. Guys, I love Dee Henderson. I love the love stories and the suspense and mystery. I love how they each discover their own way to faith.

Kate O'Malley is a negotiator for her police force. She's amazing at her job. When everyone looks frantic and angry, she looks bored. She can defuse almost all situations. One such situation changed a lot in her life. In a bank hold-up, she meets Dave. Dave is from the prequel of the series. He is an FBI agent who just so happens to be at the bank when it all goes down. He is hidden, and the man that has the bank held up is not interested in money, but payback for taking his house. It's a rough situation.

Together, they make it through, and Dave is now in Kate's life. Together, they trevail the waves of trouble that are crashing all around her. More than that, she is able to discover what Dave has that gives him hope in even hopeless situations.

I highly recommend for lovers of mystery and suspense who also love Christian fiction.

A Christian suspense series. These books are quick, fun reads. After reading the whole series they got a little predictable, but fun to read about characters in the same family.

Loved it! Intense, romantic and suspenseful. Not to mention clean--the author is very Christian and there's a conversion in it, which wasn't too annoying, actually. Great story, I can't wait to read the next one.
