Dit was heel anders dan ik had verwacht, het was juist beter!
Addie has the ability to see what happens on either side of a choice. With her parents divorcing she must decide if it would be better to live with her mom or her dad. The book is written alternating chapters on each side of the choice. I didn't realize until I came on goodreads that it was the first book of a trilogy (?) though that is the YA trend right now so I'm not surprised.
This book was okay, although I found it really difficult to get into the story at times.
4.5*
I re-read this book so that I could read the sequel and I’ve forgotten how much I love it. It’s such a quick read but not because it’s easy, but because you just don’t want to put it down. Ever. I love the whole concept of the book with the abilities and the Compound. I also enjoyed reading about the two different paths Addie had to choose from, and I was torn right along with her when she had to decide. I’m so excited to see what happens in the future, especially with Trevor. I’m also looking forward to learning more about the different abilities. I highly recommend this book, as well as Kasie West’s other books.

I have put this book on and taken it off my to read shelf for at least 2 years and the last order of books I placed, I decided to pick it up, and I am so glad I did. This definitely is different for the types of books that I am usually into. This book was so interesting and so entertaining. I loved how it went back and fourth between what life would be like with mom and with dad. I loved how you could see similar things happening in each side of the story just happening whether Addie was on one side or the other. I am really happy with the ending of this book and I am so glad that I read it!
I liked this, but I'm a self-admitted sucker for "what if" alternate life-choice type stories. I'd had this on my list for a loooooong time, but while my library had the Kindle copy, no audio available there. It was on Audible, but I wasn't committed to PAYING for it, using up a precious credit. When I found a hardcopy at a thrift store, I picked it up (end goal, for my Little Free Library) and that brought it back to my attention. With an Amazon purchase, came a 3-month free AmazonMusic subscription, and recently, one free Audio borrow a month was included with that so ... I grabbed this as my February freebie (I don't even know that I'll listen to any music, just got the deal to get three audiobook borrows *Ü*).
For some reason I had it in my mind that this was about dancing ... maybe just the title? Silly me. No ballerina here. Paranormal, little group with abilities set apart from the "normal" world. Our MC can "see the future" sort of. Only for herself, and only when faced with a choice, and she can "search" to see what would happen as a result of that decision, either way. Interesting set up.
The use of "tense" here was interesting ... the first two chapters are past tense (first person, Addie's POV) as her "choice" is set up, to stay with Mom in the community, or go with Dad out to the normal world. Then, most of the book is her "search" of these two possible paths, and it switched to present tense for this. The two different paths weren't really defined by a header or anything, but they were still fairly easy to keep straight (whether she was still in the community with Duke/odd numbered chapters, or outside, with Trevor/even numbered chapters). In the TV series "Awake" had a basic premise similar, two "lives" ... one with his wife, one with his son, and he would wear a colored band to help him/and us, the viewer/ to keep them straight. The film also had a slightly different colored tint. I liked that). I wondered if it would revert to past tense when the search was over, but it stayed present tense to the end.
The storyline wasn't what I was expecting (ballerina *Ü*) but I liked it. It felt young, it IS YA ... it was a tad darker than I had anticipated (some murder, purposeful injury). No proFanity though, a couple slight sexual situations but nothing at all explicit.
I am interested in reading the sequel, seeing what happens next. Doesn't look like it was ever made into audio, so I'd have to read it on my own. This audio ... I wasn't sure about the drawl in the Dad/Normal/Trevor path, just always felt a little forced to me (I am not an expert in that accent).

“When I read, I feel emotion all on my own. Emotion no living person is making me feel. To me, it almost seems more real; because I know those characters can’t influence me with any power.”
-Addison Coleman, Pivot Point
A sensational debut! I have to admit I was adamant at first because the book is so hype, I feel like it would be hard to live in that expectation and the first chapters started a little bit off but the rest of the story made up for it. I was completely surprised by how much I ended up loving and adoring this book.
This is the most interesting dystopia I’ve read in a very long time. The story is very clever. Every chapter starts with a word that defines what this section will all be about. Every word convey so much emotion.
Pivot Point trust you in a world where in they live in compound that are filled with mentally advanced and has mind powers human. Addison life couldn’t be anymore perfect but when her parents decided to get divorce. She was forced to choose between who will she lives with. Her mother is staying in compound while her dad is moving to Dallas, the norm world. Her only choice of making this difficult decision is to use her gift which is rare, she can see the future, a researcher, this can also be categorize as clairvoyant.
So Addie searched what the future behold, she was terrified of the outcome like the blurb said Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier. Addie went through so much sacrifices to choose the path that will be less tragedy.
Pivot Point actually lives up to the hype and my expectation. I literally cannot wait for the sequel. ASHSHHDKJDKFFJJGL. That is very much necessary okay.

How did I make it so long without reading this book?! I loved every minute of this story. Cannot wait to read Split Second!
The Good:
I like the concept. I like the world where people with paranormal powers live in secret in our "norm" world. I like the dialogue between the main character Addison and her best friend Laila. It's snappy and fun and really feels like they've been best friends since childhood.
The Bad:
There are no stakes in this story. Though Addison must choose whether to live with her mom in the paranormal compound or live with her dad in the "norm" world, there are no dangers or challenges in either option. It seems as if her decision will be based around which boy she likes best. Lame.
Disclaimer:
I've only read to page 100. That's all I'm giving this book. The book jacket promised her dad would investigate a murder, but no murder has happened yet, and I'm not sticking around to see if this story gets more interesting. If interesting stuff has not happened by page 100, I'm out of here!
In Conclusion:
If you like your stories more romance than paranormal, you might like this book. If you want characters with paranormal powers to actually USE their powers and have some fun, exciting times because of said powers, this book is not for you.

During first hundred I thought will not finish this and just leave it. The Norm part was good, but omg, the Para was soo boring (and D-gay is such a prick!). After few weeks gave the rest another chance and finished during night. The Para part still kept me doubting, but the Norms kept me motivated :D and then there was part when u just cannot put it down. So yeah, actually pretty good in the end.
