Addie Coleman possesses the ability to explore her possible futures—she lives in a community of people who are above average—each person holds some kind of super-ability. The community is separate from the “Norms,” those who do not possess any kind of superpower. When Addie’s parents divorce, she decides to explore the six weeks spent in both options—the one with her mom, and the one with her dad. Even while she discovers romance and happiness in both worlds, her exploration reveals that secrets and danger also await her. How will she choose the right life to live? Pivot Point offers a fascinating premise that invites readers to think about how each of our choices sets in motion a whole different world of events and possibilities. I did want to see a little more development with some of the other characters in the story, but the strong plot and premise awarded this book 4 out of 5 stars.
Young adults and adults who enjoyed the film Sliding Doors will like this story that offers both of the protagonist’s choices for a major life event. Kaisie West definitely knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats with the back and forth between both worlds, so readers that gravitate toward such a forward pulling narrative should pick it up. I also think West is fantastic with dialogue–I especially enjoyed the friendship between Addie and Laila.

What started out as a boring book for me turned out to be quite good. The first chapters were a bit dull because I wasn’t very interested in the pointless narration of their regular teenage lives. Or at least they only seemed pointless at first.
What I love about Pivot Point is how it subtly laid out the path to the climax. You’re introduced to lots of characters, get to see them build a relationship, but it doesn’t feel interesting right away. At one point, both choices in Addie’s Search were parallel and I love how they ultimately melded into one theme. That’s where I got hooked. So much so that it made me feel this sense of dread, not knowing how Addie could possibly choose a future or how she’ll figure out a way to choose the more ideal one without sacrificing a few things (or, spoiler alert, people....). Getting stressed with the protagonist’s problem — THAT’S how engrossed I was.
The imaginative world that Kasie West created is one I would like to go back to. The supernatural abilities the characters possess are quite interesting and how it was woven into the story is seriously refreshing. I don’t read much from the genre so West’s take is very much welcome in this bookworm’s heart. By the time I reached the end of the book, I instantly knew I wanted to get the next one. I mean, how could I not?

Basically, it all comes down to the fact that Kasie West is pretty awesome. She rocked everything: the plot, world building and characterization. The way the stories weave together is so well done...and it all keeps you guessing until the very end. This is one of those rare times when you won't be figuring out the end before you get there. Seriously. Just enjoy anticipating the "WTF? AHHHHHHH!" moment you have coming to you.

“I don't care when people think I'm an antisocial, controlling bookworm because that's what I am. It's when they interpret me wrong that I have a problem.”
“When I read, I feel emotion all on my own. Emotion no living person is making me feel.”
This book blew me away, I wanted to start it for a long time because of the amazing and so fresh idea that it holds. 'Pivot Point' is Addie's story, she's a teenager with powers. When she's facing a choice, she can see her paths and choose one of them. {As a matter of fact, I want this power. Yes, please.} Though I might change my mind after that end... And then, this book gave me so many feelings, I shipped her with Duke and then I fallen in love with Trevor and yeah, somewhere around the middle of the book, I knew that I wanted her to be with Trevor. But I never, never predicted Duke's story, not going to spoil you, though. The twist, no, thank you, Kasie West! No, I can't wait for the second book and I need TREVOR. :) *totally not fangirling about him*
“Sometimes perfection reveals the lie, ..., not the truth.” And this quote reminds me so much of Duke, like a foreseen. Just thought that I should add it.

DISCLAIMER: I wrote this review as a teen. I am saving it for posterity :)
I will be the first to admit that I am a fan of Kasie West’s signature fluffy novels. This is why I was hesitant to read Pivot Point; I wasn’t sure how her writing style would translate into a Sci-Fi / Paranormal novel. I was pleasantly surprised. This novel was more so a contemporary with Sci-Fi elements than a specifically Sci-Fi book, but it worked!
Pros
- The Love Triangle™ is reimagined in a clever way that actually makes it interesting
- Addie is a likable main character. I like how Kasie West showed the effect her parents’ powers had on her and the family dynamic
- The two different futures were fun to read and see the connections between
- The world was built well, and I would have liked to know more about “mind patterns” and other aspects of the Compound
- The light-hearted tone mixed with more serious plot points made for a breezy, hard-to-put-down read.
Cons
- Addie was portrayed as weak and defenseless. She constantly had other people stepping in to save her. Duke was by far the most annoying character, in part because of this. He “protected” Addie and Laila when Poison came to collect money in one instance. When Addie told Laila and Duke about Poison’s threat she makes a comment about how Laila is in more danger than she is. Both Laila and Duke laugh at her. They tell her, essentially, that she is weak. This was something that bugged me early on and kind of dragged down the rest of the book (and lowered the rating for me). I realize that it would be unrealistic for her to be super powerful and such, but she should be able to take care of herself and not depend so much on others.
- I got a little confused toward the end when the two separate paths started to look more familiar
- Some of the side characters are just there, and others serve as plot devices. I would have like to see a few of them more developed
- So much of the story was consumed by football. I’m kind of sick of the sport by this point.
I would recommend this book for any fan of Kasie West, someone who is in the mood for a light read, or even as a palette cleanser between books. Just don’t go in with any huge Sci-Fi expectations.
It’s hard to say too much without spoiling anything, so I’m just going to go read the next book...

Favourite Quote: “One person can't change the future. Do you know how many people and things are involved in every major event that happens? Sure, you might be able to change some of the minor aspects of a day, but ultimately things that are going to happen, if you go along a certain path, do happen.”
I have wanted to read this book ever since I saw it months and months ago and finally got around to doing it! First off I want to say for the majority of this book I thought I would be rating it 3/5 stars but fortunately the last quarter made up for the rest of the book and my final rating for this book is 4/5 stars!
The thing I liked most about this book was the separate kind of world that the author created. Where all the people have special mental abilities like Sky High or something. I was astonished by the way the author described and showed how the main character Addie’s Searcher power, it was really well done. I loved how the two paths had the same incidents but had changed depending on what path Addie was currently living, hard to describe what I mean but if you read the bok you’d understand!
The main reason I thought I was going to rate the book 3/5 stars was because of the plot. For all of the first half and some of the second half, I thought the plot was boring, bland and wasn’t going anywhere. However that all changed during the second half, were the main plot points came together in a action-packed,breath holding, stunned climax. Totally made up for the rest of the book! I was actually shocked by some of the things that happened, never saw them coming!
The characters in the book were muli-dimension which I loved, how they changed depending on the path was great, showed how different people can be based on their choices. Our main character Addie was likeable even though she annoyed me in the beginning. The love interest Duke, I didn’t trust in the beginning resulting in me not liking him throughout but Travis I just loved! He was the perfect love interest. A guy who draws well, reads comic books and plays sports, what more could you ask for?! Other side characters were good, they made either interesting characters or great villians, adding to the overall story.
Overall I highly recommend this book to everyone with a warning that the beginning is slow, but the end makes up for it!

maybe reading the first 100 pages of the "split point" affected my opinion about this book, or maybe reading the second book forced me to finish this book first, I don`t know !!!
I like the idea of this book and the superpowers that were presented in this book, even that most of them were not very original, but I liked the "divergent" power of "Addi" the protagonist ( I WANT THIS POWER IT WILL MAKE MY LIFE EASIER).
I think that there was lacking in the world building in this book, like I really wanted to know more about the "compound" system and people job and ranks, I wanted to know the history of it and how they did it. Also,I wanted to know more about the school systems, classes, the "placement" and the programs they used to develop there mind powers ... the information that was presented were not satisfied to me at all.
Also, I was like MEH in the first 200 pages of this book, I did not care much about the characters and I did not care much about the options they will make.
but I really liked the relationship between Trevor and Addi(the book and graphic novel theme) ... but I felt that Addi`s behavior and act about wanting the friendship with Trevor were childish
I don`t know if I will read the next novel or not , WAIT WAIT ... I am divergent and I know that the next book will be better than this.

What? A Kasie West book I didn’t love?! I didn’t know it was possible either. But this one happened. I think the reason is because this is not her YA contemporary. This is like YA thriller with some paranormal stuff happening. But like mind powers paranormal and not ghosts and shit. So like, make of it what you will.
Addie lives on this secret compound where people have mind powers but it’s a secret. When her parents tell her they are getting divorced, she has to do a Search to see which one she wants to live with. This means she can see each path in her mind and then choose the best one.
It wasn’t like the worst book. Most of the time I was bored and didn’t care about the mystery part. Like you can tell when it’s each part, but I had a hard time keeping up with the two perspectives collided in a sense. I just kind of stopped caring what Addie was doing. And like the love story was kind of cute? But I don’t know really. I’m only going to read the companion book for the romance since I do somewhat care about the outcome.
I’d say if you’re a Kasie West fan just stick to her contemporary YA because her paranormal book isn’t really worthwhile. I only say this as someone who’s read everything she’s written so I like to think I know a little bit. She’s one of my favorite contemporary YA authors though so please don’t think I hate her works. I’m just not into this poorly developed world. She has better books.
