4.2 AVERAGE

Had some interesting ideas, but some of the ideas on leadership are naive and overly simplistic. It was disappointing, overall.

ok so this book was definitely something!! and i have very mixed feelings about it. did i enjoy it? yes and no.

i think i would’ve rated the book a lot higher if it didn’t have such a rough start. i honestly thought about dnf-ing it early on because it was so… not great? the writing style (although it gets better) is NOT my favorite, and it took a while to get used to. i felt very confused in the beginning because i feel like there wasn’t a great set up to the to world, which could be because of narration but idk. Also some of the plot points at the beginning (which like yeah ok i get why they’re important NOW) were just so…. shocking and bonkers. and again CONFUSING! the beginning really was just super confusing and honestly, not that interesting. i feel like i wasn’t super invested until the middle of the book.

which brings me to my next point, the middle (roughly when ender has his own army at battle school) NOW THAT PART WAS GOOD!! it was exciting and i felt very very invested, especially because by then i felt like i understood the book more and there was just more going on. i also liked how we really got to see a lot of corruption and manipulation happening, definitely the best part and i really enjoyed it. very great go dragon army!

the ending was good? i thought it was decent? i felt like it kept going. there were also certain plot points (like the warsaw pact thing what???) that they had also talked about earlier that just made no sense to me tbh, and i felt like they weren’t really needed. idk! but the big plot twist or whatever i thought was good, but i feel like it could’ve been revealed in a better and had more of a reaction from ender, that would’ve made it so much better. and then i felt like it just kept going and going. the last chapter was good, very interesting….

one thing that irritated me was a handful of grammatical errors in this book, whether it was switching back and forth between perspectives or just wrong tenses of words… that bugged me (lol pun not intended)

anyways,
overall im glad i read it and i don’t think it’s a bad book, more just not for me. already i struggle with sci-fi, but this one reallyyy struggled to hook me. that’s honestly the biggest reason why its so low. but i think the concept overall is great and there definitely were times where i was invested and jaw dropped! it’s genuinely an intriguing and honestly sad book, i am impressed by how deep it was. but i just wish it was more consistent with “excitement” i guess? idk the beginning was rough guys

This was the best sci/fi book I have ever read!  It's more of a character development book that takes place in the future.  A very quick read and really fun.

Found this in a thrift store on the way out of town, listened to it on the road. A good way to pass the time, though it was a 2-starer until the ending. And maybe it was a template for Harry Potter?
