I can't say if this is a good book for children, but as an adult I enjoyed this so so so much.

Firstly, the Arcturus edition of The Nutcracker is just gorgeous.
Secondly, I haven't read this in decades and I forgot just how much happens in The Nutcracker (as someone used to the ballet). It is darker than many of us expect for a children's book, but a wonderful book for the holidays

This is the eighth in my #12DaysofChristmas read-a-thon! Each day I will post a review of a Christmas / Winter related book. Hopefully this will give you some Xmas-Inspo and give your holiday reading a boost!
I think it's fair to say that The Nutcracker, though a relatively short read, isn't always an easy one. However it is incredibly full of Christmas magic, if you care to look. There's plenty of ambiguity with characters like Godfather Drosselmeyer - keeping you guessing as to the old man's motives. There's also some beautiful descriptive writing - towards the end of the book this is especially allowed to shine.
I would recommend this classic Christmas story to anyone; but be prepared to put in a little effort for the reward!

“Oh!” exclaimed Marie at last, “who does the charming little fellow in the tree belong to, dearest Papa?”
Mooi boek wat ik mezelf zeker nog vaker zie lezen, ben ook erg benieuwd naar de film nu.
De prachtige illustraties die in deze editie zitten voegen ook echt iets toe.
Tip: Lees hem met de kerst.
