Önemli İngiliz yazarlardan biri olan Milton, Yitirilen Cennet kitabında bizlere şiirsel bir anlatım ile Şeytan'ın düşüşünü, Adem ve Havva'nın cennetten kovuluşunu anlatmakta. İlk başlarda Şeytan'ın Tanrıya asi gelmesi ve düşüşü anlatılmakta. Bu kısımlar oldukça hızlı okunuyor. Sonrasında Adem ve Havva'nın yaratılışları ve cennet tasvir edilmekte. Ortalara doğru kitap biraz durağanlaşıyor fakat sonrasında tekrar akıcı anlatıma geri dönüp keyifli bir okuma sağlıyor. John Milton'un bu kitabı tamamen kör olduğu bir dönemde yazmış olması da oldukça ilginçtir. Kitap Hristiyanlık temelleri üzerinde ilerlemekte. Farklı olarak Şeytan sanki biraz daha sevilebilir bir şekilde anlatılmış. Onun aslında kim olduğunu bilsen de okurken kendini onun yaptıklarını anlamaya çalışırken buluyorsun. Sanki bir bakıma Lucifer dizisindeki Şeytana sempati duymak gibi. Sonuç olarak yavaş yavaş, sindire sindire okunması gereken aceleye getirilmemesi gereken bir kitap. Okuduğum bazı yorumlarda çevirinin kötü olduğundan bahsedilmiş. Sanırım o eski basım ve farklı yayın şirketi tarafından basılmış. İthali yayınlarından çıkan yeni baskı oldukça iyi.

I’m unsure if Milton wrote Lucifer as the logical one like, we’re supposed to cheer him on, right? And loathe God and Adam- right?

A good piece of classic literature if you enjoy poetry. I personally found some of it very difficult to parse at times but with rereading sections when necessary i found it a genuinely interesting retelling of genesis.

There are so many things to say about this work, so many comparisons to make, it's like an academic little goldmine. I'm appreciative.
Noice. I might have stayed in catechism if they'd given me this shit to read (though I doubt the Church likes Milton's heroic Satan and anti-clergy moments). I want read some feminist analysis of Eve, and I'll probably read Milton's Eve by Diane McColley.
I FINALLY READ THIS DAMNED THING. First I read just the text; understood next to nothing. Then I listened to the audiobook; understood nothing but felt something. Then I read the text and the notes; understood some bits. Then I listened to the audiobook again; didn't understand much more but enjoyed it a lot. I would have liked to understand it a better but there are plenty of books in my queue and the world is ending.
