This was an interesting concept, and the tone of the book kept me engaged. But with the last 25% or so, I found myself getting bored of the mystery and of the girls' situations.

I really enjoyed this. The characters were well fleshed out, the setting well done, and the research done on the code breaker girls was good. However, *SPOILERS* I had already half figured out who the killer was, so it wasn't that big of a BANG reveal, if you get what I mean. It was also a bit Bletchly Park esqu. If you have seen the tv show, it was almost identical, except that it was in the US and still during the war. Overall, it was a brilliant read that has me wanting more.
I already love Ellie Marney from her None Shall Sleep series, but now I'm convinced I can and WILL read anything she writes. In The Killing Code, Marney doesn't just tackle a brand new mystery with all new characters... This is a historical mystery involving female codebreakers during World War II. The research that had to have gone into writing this book must have been insane!! Yet, Marney found a way to make it an easy page turner and I (surprisingly) was able to keep up- guessing at the coded mystery until the final chapter.

“I am the code you never broke, and I don’t play by the rules”
For fans of:
- Historical Fiction
- Strong female characters
- Sapphic romance
Did I call the killer from the first couple of chapters? Maybe so. Was this still an enjoyable book? Yeah.
I have always held a personal interest and fascination with the female codebreakers in WWII - so this book sat in a particular niche that was built perfect for me.
Even though I had the killer in my sights early - I really enjoyed the experience and process of the characters solving the mystery at the core of this story. This is a quick murder mystery with a fascinating backdrop and loveable characters. And while I didn’t go into this book expecting a romance (or for it to be sapphic! This is what I get for not reading blurbs), I found myself really enjoying the budding relationship between Kit and Moya.
I don’t think the mystery is the core of this book. Because, at least to me, it’s a bit predictable. No, the core of this book is the way it’s solved. It is the story of a group of women seeing patterns and finding clues where others have missed them. And that element was a very enjoyable ride.
