I can see why this is compared to The Outsiders. Honestly, because of the girls, it makes me realize how simplistic The Outsiders really is. Because of its similarity, you see where the story is going right away. It’s also very hard to believe that the white characters are sympathetic to non-white people. Not every story back in the 60s needs to invoke the Good-White character. It’s ok if they never think about non-white people ever, especially if they aren’t overly racist; I think that’s more realistic.

Wasn't the best but also wasn't the worst. Pretty slow for the first half but does get better.

I mean, it's a loose reimagining of The Outisders -- my favorite book -- with teenage girls, so this is absolute catnip for me. It's moving, smart and big-hearted, with important things to say about female role, friendship, sexual assault and a bunch of other topics. Plus it's swift-moving and an absorbing read.

this is a fast-paced and engaging story. and it's sadddddddddddd

love the title, the characters are interesting, just felt like there could've been a bit more

historical fiction rarely moves this fast or reads this well though so that was definitely a plus. also one kinda sad thing- it felt like evie didn't really get a happily ever after.
