I loved it. It was one of my favorites when I read it as a kid and I’m surprised how much I didn’t remember. Loved the relationship between them but it took me a while, almost towards the end, to feel the cuteness. It reminds me of a current relationship, did not expect to find how much this book defined me and my life. Also, having watched Wednesday so recently, it was wild seeing the similarities. The opposite roommates and their cute friendship, the dark cold girl from the weird family with seemingly no feelings. The first time I read it I gave it five stars and I was thinking of lowering it to 4 on this reread but that scene
where holmes kisses watson and tells him that’s all she can do
really warmed my heart. It was an amazing journey warming up to the character even though they drove me crazy every other page.

Coloquei ainda mais post it

I can't believe I had this for 5 years and only read it now. Ooops. I almost gave it away last year... Thank god I'm stubborn and decided to read it first since I'd spent money on it. Because this was actually a lot of fun to read.
It's basically about Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson, two teenage descendants of the famous Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, who somehow end up at the same US boarding school when people start being murdered.
If you expect some kind of deep story, believable actions or lots of crime solving and plot twists... this is not it. Tbh, I was not interested in the mystery plot at all here. It's really an interpretation of Holmes and Watson as modern teenagers that made this interesting for me. And I enjoyed how they, their relationship and other known characters from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories are interpreted here. But what I loved the most was the banter and the humour in general. The book is told from Jamie's perspective, and it had me laugh out loud in the middle of the night several times. Really great one liners.
Guess, I will read the other books in the series as well now that I know what to expect from them.

If you are a fan of mysteries that involve slow burn romances this is the book for you. The relationship between the two protagonists is a huge selling point for me, and it's not a girl chase boy story it's the other way around. A nice change for an otherwise overused trope in the romance genre. Besides the romance of it the mystery itself is a fun call back to a classic Sherlock Holmes story all wrapped up in a modern twist. Fans of the BBC Sherlock or Elementary will get a kick out of reading this first-time adventure between Charlotte Holmes and her new partner Jamie Watson.
