I enjoyed reading about a part of WWII I knew nothing about, but I found the story, based on a real person, to be a pretty superficial description of a complicated time & place.  His ability to be at so many historical events reminded me of Forrest Gump.  The love story was also a distraction for me, because it seemed so silly, and his attitude toward women so juvenile (granted, the character was young).

The second I’ve read from Mark Sullivan and absolutely loved it! Was really interesting to learn about a side of WWII that you don’t often hear about. The fact that Sullivan writes about true stories makes them all the more enthralling. I read this shortly after reading The Nightingale and I have to say, I enjoyed this one just slightly more! Highly recommend! 4.5 stars

This book is not easy to get a hold of. I found it on Audible and I was instantly hooked. In fact, I haven't thought of Lord of Rings since but now I feel slightly quilty for having dropped the ball on that one, but only a little bit. The story is told with great detail and as far as the author could authenticate the facts, it is a true story. I know very little about Italy during WWII and man I'm glad someone wrote about it. The questions this story brings up are tough for sure!
