Let me just say that I expected better. The book has rave reviews, everyone seems to love it. And sure, I did like it (see the 4 stars), but there were just quite a few things that I didn't like.
Though I guess, all those little things could be summed up to one big one, Lilac. Dear Lord in all Heavens, she was so annoying, so spoiled, so bleh. Even later on, she just didn't even want to show her true feelings, instead hiding behind a façade again!
And yes, I know why she was hiding her feelings, because, yes, ladies and gentlemen, this woman is afraid of her daddy. And sure, he did some shitty things that weren't nice, some things that were terrible, but girl? That is no reason to treat everyone as shit.
Tarver just tries to help you out, and what do you do? Walk around like a fucking princess. OMG my heels! OMG my dress! Oh yes, your poor poor dress, your poor poor designer shoes. Oh noes, whatever shall we do? Apocalypse now?
For a big part of the book she is just acting like a spoiled little princess. Again, yes, I know what her dad did, but again, no reason for her to act like this.
There were also parts that were just unbelievable. She is afraid of rain, I just rolled off my bed when I read that. Wow.... rain, yes the silent killer. OHHHhhhhhhhh *insert waving arms and scary noises*
Add to that the stupid stuff she did (explosions anyone?).
And sure she had a few good things. But mostly? Nope, nope and nope. Her POV was the one I dreaded to read.
Thankfully we have Tarver, or Trevor as I called him (Tarver just didn't make sense, and my head immediately went to make it Trevor). He was amazing. Witty, smart, funny, charming, sweet. He did everything for Lilac, even though she was (for most) an ungrateful wench. He cared so much for her, he would walk through fire and back for her.
I loved how he immediately made a plan when they crashed, immediately took charge and tried to help. How he found food, how he wasn't afraid to do things.
Trevor (sorry, I am just going to call him that from now on) was amazing. His POV (and also the POV when he is interviewed) were the best ones in the book. I looked forward to hearing his voice again, to seeing him do everything he could.
And sure, at times, he was a bit grumpy, but then again, everyone would with such an idiotic girl following you.
I also loved the romance, the planet and the figuring out what was wrong with it, the whispers, the exploring, the ending. There were a few moments that teared me up. Enough reasons to rate this a 4 stars. It is just a shame that Lilac was just so terrible. :(
The cover is also amazing! I just love how it looks.
Will I be reading the other books in this series? I am not sure yet. They do sound nice, but I am hesitant to read them. I don't want yet another Dual POV with one character to dislike.

I know, I'm as surprised by that rating as you are. Despite how much I loved both these characters and their romance, there just wasn't a lot to these books. You could barely call them sci-fi and there were a lot of more... survivalist details, I think. Anyway, it was still sweet, but I hope there's more to it in the second book, because... Meh for the story. Squee for the romance, though. Yummy.
OMG. I have not had a book make me cry since Allegiant. I don't know if it was because I was listening to this book and Jonathan McClain did such an awesome job, or if I would have cried anyway. But oh man.... that was edge of your seat excitement at the end.
These Broken Stars is narrated in first person with each chapter switching back and forth between Tarver and Lilac the two main characters. In between each chapter are snippets of an interview between Tarver and some sort of integrator... which offers an interesting foreshadowing of the chapter to come, especially as you realize how deeply Tarver starts to lie.
Part classic space opera, part love story, part survivalist, this is a very enjoyable ride, and the ending was not quite predictable. I found the opposing opinions of the main characters especially in the beginning of the book so interesting, though at times I just wanted to hit them over the head and tell them to just talk to each other honestly already!
Really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to seeing how This Shattered World is related.

This book was truly amazing. In the beginning, I was a bit confused. But it was more like, the gears in my head has to twist into place to get into the mindset of outer space and the future. But once I was in the world, I didn't want to leave it. Seriously. I've read over two hundred pages today. It was great. I loved it. And when I go to Barnes and Noble today to buy Every Last Breath, I'm buying the second one
I absolutely adored this book, though the final bit got a little odd, so I'm docking it one star. Regardless, this is very good writing and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

WOW! Any one work of Amie Kauffman’s is an absolute Gateway d r u g. Also compliments to Meagan Spooner- I enjoyed this book so, so much. Though it’s labeled young adult, in my opinion this book is appropriate for all *mature ages.* The writing was so beautiful and completely transported me.

Sorta Synopsis
Lilac LaRoux has lived an extremely sheltered life, always living on a luxury vessel that is moving through space at hyperspeed. As in, she’s never seen stars even though she’s always lived in space, because they’re moving so quickly they’ve always been nothing but streams of light. - Yeah. Her father is famous, Having designed the luxury ship that they’re on- which has literally tens of millions of people on board. As a result, her and her father are something of a celebrity. Her father is very powerful, and he keeps Lilac on a tight leash, with virtually no freedom. Very tightly controlled and monitored, she doesn’t move or breathe without him knowing where, when, and with whom. When an emergency causes the aptly named Icarus to go into distress, warning them of an imminent disaster, Lilac and soldier Tarver wind up forced to team up in order to escape with their lives. Will the Icarus make it? Will Tarver and Lilac? The world as Lilac has known it changes as the veil is lifted and she’s forced to fight for her chance at life. When once she simply survived, passing the days in the lap of luxury like a caged canary - can she manage to survive this and perhaps even truly LIVE?
This is far from a full summary - there are many elements in this book-Sci Fi, Fantasy, Action, Romance, even Paranormal (intrigue!!!! Such a cool element they pull off even if it sounds like they couldn’t possibly!) - This book had me on the edge of my seat and I truly could not stop reading it. I am SO GLAD that this is a series- I can’t wait to continue it and one day own every book. Amie and Meagan have absolutely nailed it with this book. Whole heartedly recommend you grab a copy of the whole series because once you finish this one, you’ll want to start the next immediately!

Lilac LaRoux is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. The Icarus, the newest and fanciest luxury spaceliner to come out of the orbital dock, was built by her father's corporation. Tarver Merendsen is a war hero from the "wrong" kind of family. His father is a school teacher and his mother a poet. He's too poor to really be accepted in the crowds that Lilac is a part of, but he's forced to mingle with the upper crust of society on board the Icarus for the recognition of his heroism. When the spaceliner is pulled out of hyperspace and crashes on to an unknown planet, Lilac and Tarver must work together to survive long enough to be rescued. They must make a grueling trek from where their escape pod landed to find help. Along the way, Lilac and Tarver find the strength they need in each other, but when strange things begin to happen, they'll both be tested.
This might sound a lot like the plot of Titanic--rich girl, poor boy, sinking ship--but it is so much more than that. I'm definitely digging this trend of scifi novels. This is a bit more of an intense science fiction read than the up and coming [b:Alienated|13574417|Alienated (Alienated, #1)|Melissa Landers|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1384610045s/13574417.jpg|19155818], but it's still accessible to those who wouldn't usually pick up this genre. I really loved the duel narration and extra dialogue at the end of each chapter. It kept me on my toes. And this novel was very well researched and believable. There was not one moment where I found myself disbelieving the events that were occurring. This is definitely a trilogy worth keeping an eye on.

This was as weird and wonderful as remembered it being. It made me cry, it made me happy. I think the ending just didn’t make much sense and the whole part where she was alive but not really kinda lost me. But everything before that was utter perfection. It swept me up and spit me out.
