3.5 so I rounded up! I felt the ending was really rushed and I don't really have an interest to continue with the series right now so there's that.

Gorgeous. Science Fiction survival story with a dash of romance and intrigue!

16 year old Lilac, daughter of the richest man in the known world, is shocked when the 18 year old war hero Tarver approaches her as if he doesn't know who she is. They flirt but then she has to shut it down; she knows what may happen if she doesn't. But then, their huge spaceship, The Icarus, gets sucked out of hyperspace. When Tarver and Lilac appear to be the only two survivors on the increasingly strange planet nearby it takes all their courage and untapped resources to survive the environment, their emotions, and the odd whisperings around them...

This was delightfully crafted, well-paced, and stars two VERY wonderful characters who grow, evolve, fall in love and bring the reader along with them. Definitely recommend to those who enjoyed The Knife of Never Letting Go but who wanted a slightly older characters to read about and an equally intriguing mysterious planet to discover!

4.5 stars

LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!

DID NOT FINISH: 25%

I couldn’t connect with the characters and just did not care.

Sooo, started yesterday around 2pm, finished this morning at 11am. Read it in less than 24 hours. Yes, it's described as a science fiction novel, but it's definitely more of a novel-with-heavy-romantic-elements, so sci-fi lite. But that's a good thing, because it has awesome genre cross over appeal for people who may not be inclined to pick up a sci-fi novel! Also, for those who may hesitate to pick up a YA romance, this one is angst-less.

Tarver Merendsen is a young decorated war hero from a normal (i.e. not rich) family. Lilac LaRoux is the daughter of the richest and most powerful man in the universe. They meet by chance on board the mega-ship Icarus, but Lilac quickly puts a stop to any intentions, as her father is known for making interested men disappear. The Icarus is suddenly yanked out of hyperspace, forcing Lilac and Tarver to eject in an escape pod, landing on a terraformed but uninhabited planet. As Tarver and Lilac journey through the strange new land, they learn to rely on each other to survive. Whispers start following them as they wind through forests and plains, forcing them to uncover the truth behind the empty planet - but at a terrible price.

This book was SO GOOD! Definitely goes on my list of favorites! I absolutely loved every second of it.

This was read as an audiobook! So I listened to the entire thing! :D I was really happy because a couple of years ago when I tried to listen to an audiobook I didn’t understand anything. When I listened to These Broken Stars I really enjoyed it! :D I loved the voices of Tarver and Lilac! :D They were voiced by Johnathan McClain and Cynthia Holloway!

I enjoyed this book! It was actually pretty okay. At first, I was hoping for a short read like the Titanic because that’s what I’d heard. And, I was hoping for a lot of space imagination and world-building. Really, it does not take long for the ship, the Icarus, to collapse. And, Lilac and Major Tarver didn’t really enjoy each other’s company.

When Lilac was first introduced, I didn’t really like her. She wasn’t spoiled, but I didn’t get a lot of the things that she did. For example: walking through the wilderness in high heels. Couldn’t she have broken them off with the many pieces of metal that she was with?! Or maybe, she could’ve tried to explain to Tarver . . .ugh!

But at the same time, near the end I enjoyed her a lot! Lilac goes through the most character change! There was this one point where she knew that she had to convince herself that she was strong, it was a nice emotional moment!

I didn’t understand the whole alien energy! I’m not going to talk about that because I guess that was a big part of that, somewhere.

I can’t tell if I want to read the second book because I feel like this one had an ending to it, and it’s not like the second book in the series is a continuation of Lilac and Tarver, it’s a companion. So, maybe if I ever see the second book sitting on a shelf, then I’ll go check it out.

Overall, These Broken Stars is a nice novel that wasn’t really what I was expecting, but something I enjoyed nonetheless. But for some reason, I felt like I wouldn’t have liked this book if I would’ve read it instead of listening as an audiobook. Part of this reason is that I was convincing myself that the story’s going to go slow as an audiobook anyway so I wouldn’t have to worry about that.

I would recommend this to people who want to try this out! I feel like my feeling’s are pretty okay with this. :D
