This is one of the best books I've read this year, but I don't think it's a book for everyone. It's cruel, has a lot of shades and is morally grey. You may or not may think as the characters do, but you end understanding all the criticizable things they do, all the decisions they make, even though they are wrong for us. But they are not wrong for them. It's a story about survival, and only the best survive in this cases.
So no, it's not a book for everyone, and that's what makes it perfect.
dark sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Interesting concept that’s unfortunately not explored as much as I wish it was. Main character is a massive hypocrite

Spent the day reading this one for YA book club and I’ll be honest, I wish I didn’t! Very exciting and fast-paced from the start, characters are pushed to the extremes (possibly not acting as people would in real life?) and the last 100 pages gone indulgently off the rails. If there’s a sequel, I will read the wiki synopsis.
mysterious tense medium-paced

I usually don't mind if the story has no resolution at the end as long as there is a lingering feeling inside me that's impactful. The first half got me intrigued and deeply invested in the whole eerie quarantine environment then the second half came in and all things were happening at once; moments were just passing by. Emotions and relationships weren't deeply explored though I think it was intentional as a reflection of the disease, isolation and trauma but it could've been haunting instead of hollow. I just really don't feel for it at the end. I get that this is girlhood in a different setting but it felt like it was glossed over quickly for it to resonate.

Not once have I read a horror. But I read this and couldn't really understand why it was horror. I didn't think it was scary at all.
I really like the cover and the characters though.

i honestly have no feelings whatsoever regarding this book but it got me reading again so it gets points for that. it could've redeemed itself at the end but wtf was that last chapter lol

DID NOT FINISH: 4%

I don’t like gross eye stuff and these was lots of gross eye stuff

A very interesting concept but this book just did not work for me. It's somehow not long enough but nothing really happens throughout. The girls were not very "wild" and I don't know what the point of any of this was. This book has been called "feminist horror" and I don't understand that at all. The tox didn't empower them in any way and there wasn't any feminist themes throughout. The gore/body horror was minimal and not very creepy or disgusting at all. Overall, this book was not for me.
