I bought this mostly for the beautiful cover last year and finally read it. Before starting I have heard a lot of mixed reviews (mostly bad) and I can now say it’s not for me.
The plot was interesting to follow but also predictable. I didn’t find the characters that interesting to follow and the romance didn’t really make sense to me. The ending was extremely unsatisfying
Don’t let the pretty cover deceive you, it’s not worth it

These days, YA novels are darker and violent. Wilder Girls ticked both those boxes. Aside from that, it also deserves appreciation for the inclusion of an LGBT element. Interesting protagonists. Appropriately menacing air that makes you imagine things far worse than they actually are. Good ending that is conclusive but still leaves some room for an interpretation of your own. Beautiful cover, which made me think this book would look so amazing in the form of a graphic novel. Something like The Wilds. So far so good, right?
The book disappoints when it comes to the mystery itself. For one, nothing unexpected happens.

Secondly, I don't get how the scientists could miss that the reason behind the infection was a worm-like creature. Would it not show up on any scans? What were they even testing for?

Really dark and made me wince more than once. I became quite attached to these characters so witnessing them get sicker or see others within their class die, it just really hit me in the gut. I hope they were able to get help and tell folks what was happening on the island.
Annihilation meets The Beguiled meets House of Hollow, but 100x more vicious.
This is a really easy read, I flew thru this book. But damn it was fucking depressing.
