Wow that was pretty good. Intense and fast paced. Some gore and quite dark - so not for the faint of heart. My biggest criticism is that I wish there was just a little more at the end.
Overall I felt like this was captivating and interesting. Would recommend

A bit disjointed, and no clear explanation or resolution to the problem.
Wow
I really loved this book... But I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because it ends with such a cliffhanger! I hope there is a sequel in the works. I want to know what happens next.

This was a book club choice from my list and I'm so glad it was picked!
It's been sitting on my shelf for 2 years ish and I've just kept putting it off
There was always something more interesting to read
But this was 1 of 6 books I put forward for the list and I'm really happy we chose this now
It did have me addicted to the last 50% of the book I just couldn't put it down but there are so many loose ends that weren't answered but it added to the mystery of the book
It took time for the characters to grow on me as well as the style of writing

Super creepy. This audiobook was probably not the best choice for listening to during the covid19 pandemic. Girls at an island boarding school being infected with a life-threatening toxin try to find out what the head mistress and her followers know before it's too late. 3.5 stars, rounding up. Dystopian fans love this one, but that's not my genre.

2.5/5 stars for a whole lot of body horror and a whole lot of... expectations that didn't quite materialize. wilder girls tells the tale of a group of schoolgirls quarantined on an island due to a mysterious disease that's ravaged the entire school population. poetic prose is used, with some unique stylistic choices in the writing, and there's sapphic romance that's just a bit messy.
the good:
- very atmospheric writing that captured the moody, dark vibes of the story.
- gritty survival done well and in a believable manner.
- predominantly female cast, with wlw romance.
the bad:
- flat characters. attempts at development were too vague and too weak; for example, there was a lot hinted at with regards to byatt's personality being more than what it appeared to be on the surface, but this was never really explored until the side story (which i'll be reviewing separately--it was a solid 4/5 stars for me, and should really have been included in the main novel as opposed to being a standalone).
- a whole lot of... nothing. the reader never really finds out anything, in terms of a proper conclusion or even the world-building and lore behind the world of wilder girls. too much guesswork and speculation is required even in the sense of the story's basic premise, such as 'why did this all happen in the first place?' or even 'what actually happened, anyway?' which was a disappointment.
all in all, a perfect setup that fell a bit short in the execution.
