I picked up “The Love Hypothesis” after a heavier read to avoid a slump, and it served its purpose well. Adapted from a Wattpad/fan fiction novel, my expectations were initially low. Despite hearing good things about Ali Hazelwood’s novels and seeing this title prominently in bookstores, I found the book to be filled with repetitive language and a plot that fell flat. Its predictability and lack of a compelling hook made it challenging for me to stay engaged and motivated to finish.

Overall, it was a breezy read with a different setting in stem. The novel achieved its goal (I can imagine it being a nice beach read), the writing was not the worst I’ve encountered, but the book overall was fairly mediocre without anything particularly standout.

• HYPOTHESIS: When given a choice between A (a slightly inconveniencing situation) and B (a colossal shitshow with devastating consequences), I will inevitably end up selecting B.
• The day Olive met Anh’s rolling eyes, a life-changing friendship was born. Slowly, they’d begun to include Malcolm and become a bit of a trio, but Anh... Anh was her person. Family.
• “Second, I find it oddly flattering that you’d think Carlsen would go to these ridiculous lengths to get me to date him.”
“Anyone would, Ol. Because you’re awesome.”
• It’s not my job to manage your friend’s emotions. He’s in a Ph.D. program, not grade school. He’ll be inundated by feedback he doesn’t like for the rest of his life if he pursues academia. How he chooses to deal with it is his own business.
• But you don’t have to dislike him because I do. Though I do reserve the right to comment on your abysmal taste in men.
• Malcolm was quiet for a long moment. “You have no idea, do you?” His tone was sad. “You’re great. You’re beautiful, and loving. You’re independent, and a genius scientist, and selfless, and loyal—hell, Ol, look at this ridiculous mess you created just so your friend could date the guy she likes without feeling guilty. There’s no way Carlsen hasn’t noticed.”
• Olive looked at him, and a realization dawned on her: Holden was Adam’s Anh. His person. It was obvious that Adam and Tom were very close, too, but the relationship Adam had with Holden was something else, and . . . and Olive had no idea what to do with this piece of information.
• It’ll be miserable, for sure, but it’s the only way to create a good environment for women like us, Ol. Give some competition to all these entitled white men.
• “Olive,” Dr. Aslan interrupted her with a stern tone. “What do I always tell you?”
“Um... ‘Don’t misplace the multichannel pipette’?”
“The other thing.” She sighed. “ ‘Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man.’ ”
• It hit her then what was so special about Adam. That no matter his reputation, or how rocky their first meeting, since the very beginning, Olive had felt that he was on her side. Over and over, and in ways that she could never have anticipated, he had made her feel unjudged. Less alone.

Trigger warnings: Acoso sexual, intento de abuso sexual.

4.5⭐ rounded up

I had wanted to read this book for a long time and because of that, as soon as it came out I started reading it.

Olive is a Ph.D student that had focused her studies to identify an early detection of pancreatic cancer due to personal motives, and it seems her investigation is going somewhere... but she needs a bigger laboratory to keep her investigation further.

On top of that, Olive is trying to be a good friend and demonstrate her best friend that she's not interested in her ex-boyfriend (just to be clear, Olive's ex, not her best friend's) and that they should totally date because is obvious they like each other, what's her solution to that problem? Kiss a random man at university that, God helps her, is no one else but the most strict professor in the whole Academia (fortunately, not her professor, that would bring her a lot of problems).

Since then, Doctor Adam Carlsen and Olive start fake dating, having very specific rules and we get to see how their bond starts to slowly grow stronger, how they're an ideal support for the other and their relationships with their friends (btw, this characters have some very cute and healthy friendships, if you're looking for a friendship, look for what our MC's have with their friends).

I loved the book, Adam and Olive are the perfect grumpy × sunshine and their moments together were so cute, they made me believe in love again. The book treated certain issues seriously and I liked that.

Is the book predictable? Yes, totally. Like almost every other Ao3 fanfic, but another thing that fanfics have in common is that it doesn't matter how many clichés they have or how predictable they are, they're gold and they have you reading them from beginning to end with no rest. That's how I read The Love Hypothesis.

My only 'but' is that I would've liked more screen time for the secondary couples and the epilogue to be a little more cheesy and romantic, besides that, I loved it, gonna reread soon.

One last thing you have to know is that the book is promoted as something spicy that has a lot of erotic scenes and nope, is not like that. There are sex scenes, but is only in one chapter and the book doesn't evolves around sex (which makes sense since the main character is demisexual).

Trigger warnings: sexual harassment, failed sexual assault.

Pre-review:
OK I JUST FINISHED AND I COULDN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT THE COVER SEEMS LIKE A REYLO FANART AND THAT THE AUTHOR IN THE ACKNOWLEDGMENTS SAID THAT SHE WAS A REYLO FAN AND USED TO WRITE FANFICTION, AND THE LOVE INTEREST IS CALLED ADAM, THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY

Ok no, actually not, I loved this so much and it was angsty but fluffy and made me feel so many things, probably I'm going to write my review in english and spanish because I have so much to say.
