As a spicy MM retelling of the Red Riding Hood story, this book was a lot of fun to read. Ryder and Wotan's chemistry sizzles from their first meeting and never loses it's fire through the entire book. Having the big, bad wolf and the huntsman as one in the same was an interesting concept for the story. I also enjoyed how the author constantly kept readers guessing as to who's side Rune was really on.

The writing was well done, despite having more crude language than I prefer. The world building was vivid and easy to understand without hitting the reader over the head or slowing the pacing. I think post-apocalyptic fantasy is quickly becoming one of my new favorite sub-genres.

CW: Dub-con, violent death, abandonment of a child, talk of torture, D/s.

Quick and easy read, a real pageturner finished in one sitting.

There's nothing special to it really, your typical romance but in a fantasy setting. Very insta-lust and ista-love.

A shit tonne of smut and a bit of plot. Smut has some issues with writing that doesn't make much sense physically and bits of actual plot are ok but more on a fairytale side (meaning unrealistic as shit). Oh and on that note, dark my ass. This book is pretty tame in comparison to dark-themed books.

Overall, it was a fun experience but I bet you I'll forget all about it in a few months.

nah fam I’m sorry this was not it

read Cortney’s review for thoughts I agree with everything she said

A gorgeous red riding hood retelling with a gay supernatural twist - don’t mind if I do! say less!

Ryder, who is half human half witch, has been ostracized from his coven by his grandma (due mostly to his human heritage) but she still sends him on errands. One being to attend the Syndicate Ball - which is where the monsters of the world meet. Here he gets chosen as the boon by the fighting champion and they have a wee spicy moment, that seemed quite tender to Ryder - before the mystery fighter disappears.

A month later he is summoned by his grandmother but he must ask permission to cross the woods by Wotan - who after stealing a kiss denies him, but he tries to cross anyway. Only to be caught held captive to try to get more information out of him by Wotan. But his torture method isn’t very good, it’s basically just foreplay and then a very steamy time, plus Ryder is telling the truth cause he’s a sweet innocent wee witch! But he still has a backbone and stands up to Wotan too.

The feelings between them evolve quickly but Wotan doesn’t want that and is convinced the Ryder can’t possibly be telling truth and he sends him to the woods to hunt him - with the only outcomes being he escapes, or Wotan scours his memories and kills him - and the secret third option of mating with him. He of course takes the third option but still sends him to his grandma to figure out what she wants with him.

This story was super fun, love a different twist on an old tale. The characters were interesting and had a good dose of heat!

A wonderfully spicy fairy tale retelling with an awesome twist. This is one of those books you want to read alone, maybe with a fan going and a tall, cold drink of water nearby. Fury and Pennza certainly know how to bring the heat! Ryder and Wotan were so different yet so perfect for each other - even if they don't want to see it at first (this is an enemies to lovers romance, after all). I love the power dynamics at play, and the introduction of witches and magic to the story. This isn't a light-hearted retelling of a classic tale, it's dark, gritty, sexy, and will get your heart racing for more than one reason. I'm dying to see what book two has in store!

This is the first book of this series that does fantasy retellings. They are good at giving a nod to the originals without copying their formats word for word. Ryder is a survivor and stronger than he gives himself credit for. For the witch's in his bloodline, the power is passed down to the females only but he manages to have the power of a "Cassandra" like his mother. As a "Cassandra" he can see into people's futures so he makes his living by being a fortune teller in the Free Zone. He has an absolutely horrible grandmother, that you just have to read about to understand. Ryder's grandmother lives in 'the Wood', which is part of Wotan's territory. She has summoned him but didn't explain why, forcing Ryder to have to seek permission to enter into Wotan's territory to cross. Wotan is a creature from the Veil that has become one of the syndicate leaders, the Earth Syndicate. He is Master of the Hunt and runs club Cauchemar, where humans and monsters indulge themselves in all manners of vices. Wotan is described as the nightmares incarnate. He has no real body or form but his glamour is a mixture of skins from humans and monsters whose souls he has consumed over the years. No one crosses his borders without his permission or they will be hunted and killed. After Ryder is denied passage, he decides to take his chances at crossing anyways. Of course, he is caught and brought back to Wotan for punishment. What they both are unprepared for is how they react to each other and how punishment turns into pleasure instead.

I liked the connection they had even when they questioned each others real intentions. There was steam, possessiveness, size difference, vampires, witches, magic and murder. It's an entertaining read and I'm looking forward to reading Tower's (Rune) book next. He's a badass in this book but you know it's all a front for his disguise, so I know in his book he will be a broken character that needs freedom, support and to be cherished.

4.25 Stars

This was such a quick and fun read. It was a little dark, which was mostly reflected in the spicy scenes, but it wasn't super crazy. This story completely sucked me in, and I was here for every spicy tidbit. And this book did have some spiiiice! I absolutely loved Wotan and Ryder together. I'm always down for the good ol' grumpy/sunshine trope! I am a fan of fairytale retellings, and I would say this was a unique one, which can be hard to do! The reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because it was lacking a couple of things. First, I think it needed a bit more relationship development. I loved what it had, and it kept me turning the pages, but I think things came to head too quickly and abruptly--it didn't make as much sense. Second, I wanted there to be a bit more of a point to this story. I think the bit of intrigue that was there was nice....but it definitely could have been developed and executed better. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, pretty straightforward, spicy, and had a lovely and fun banter. If you want fast, fun, and uncomplicated, this book is for you!
