Madeline Miller mi ha piacevolmente sorpreso, è riuscita a cavar fuori dai miti antichi e dall’Iliade stessa un romanzo che non è semplice ricopiaticcio, non è amalgama confuso e fuorviante, e allo stesso tempo esula dalle informazioni in nostro possesso, dalle fonti e dalle letture incrociate. Integra tutto questo con dignità e consapevolezza. Insomma: un romanzo moderno di ottima fattura.
E, finalmente, è stata resa giustizia alla voce (per quanto romanzata) del buon Patroclo, Philtatos - il più amato. Cosa sarebbe stato Achille senza Patroclo, e cosa Patroclo senza Achille?

A beautiful tragic love affair. Madeline Miller was able to transform an all too familiar epic into a deeply emotional and fresh new tale. We're exposed to a different side of a Trojan war - where the battlefield doesn't only take place on the beaches of Troy but in the hearts of men. Patroclus and Achilles will forever be my favorite couple in Greek mythology.

3 ⭐️ - Writing is mediocre, but still an entertaining story. I will say that Patroclus & Achilles stay the same throughout the story, not much character development, unfortunately.
