Excellent book, this was my favorite in the series. I love the supernatural elements mixed in with time travel. The vampires were very dark but it wasn't too scary for me. (and I tend to be a chicken)

I'm not really sure what rating I'm giving this book.
If you're expecting a lot of heavy fantasy in the first book of this trilogy, forget it.
There are rituals and sometimes the famous Lilith vampires appear.
This is all because this book is literally an introduction to the story that will unfold in the next two and it makes sense. It doesn't spoil the essence of the book because it's a necessary introduction how would an inner circle form overnight?
And the bad thing about this book is that I'm not a big fan of our main character Hoyt. There are certain comments that I find unbearable but of course you have to take a break because he comes from the 12th century. And it's got plenty of girl power to make up for it clearly. And we have his twin brother Cian, he does have some essence.
I will probably read the sequel one day who knows when?

Hoyt, a sorcerer from twelth century Ireland, finds himself pitted against the vampire queen Lilith when she claims his twin brother Cian. Charged by the goddess Morrigan to bring together a witch, a scholar, a warrior, a shape-changer, and the one he has lost, in order to take down Lilith and her plan to destroy the worlds, Hoyt finds not only his lost brother, but an unexpected love in the twenty-first century.

Roberts,is of course, better known for her women's fiction and her talent in that area is clear in Morrigan's Cross. Love and passion play a major role in this story, although I often skimmed past the sex scenes just to get back to the meat of the story.

The storyline and many of the characters were predictable, especially Hoyt and Glenna's relationship. Much of what is to come can already be found in this first book. I mean, 3 men and 3 women on a team, seems pretty likely that there will be a few more hook ups.

I did enjoy the different mythological references, with Morrigan and Lilith being key players. Of course, this is not the only story to link Morrigan with vampires, and I think the Cin Craven books do it a bit better. Nonetheless, this story was a quick read, and a great one for a bit of weekend relaxation.

I love stories about good versus evil.  The first book in this trilogy introduces us to the circle of six.  They have been chosen by the god Morrigan to face the ultimate evil that wants to take over the worlds.  Hoyt MacCionaoith lost his brother to a vampire.  Now he must reunite with his brother, Cian, who is a vampire.  They will work with a witch, Glenna Ward, a shape shifter, Larkin, a scholar, Moira, and Blair Murphy, a warrior.  Given three months to prepare for a fight to save the worlds.  I enjoyed this book very much.  We get to know the characters, including the evil ones.  I was invested in this fight and can't wait to read the next book.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading stories about good versus evil and is open to the fantasy elements.

I don't think I have ever been more disappointed in a Nora Roberts book. This had WAY too much going on and none of it was interesting to me. The romance was lackluster, the action moments were weak, I just didn't feel much of anything for these characters. I think the only one in the series that I will be excited to read is Moira and Cian's story. I listened to this on audiobook and that definitely had something to do with my dislike because I really didn't like the narrator, but overall I just didn't like "Nora goes all fantasy/supernatural".

Heaven knows I love an old-school Nora Roberts, and this one starts out strong as the first in a trilogy. Hoyt tries to save his twin brother Cian from the evil vampire Lilith, gets roped into a war against demons by the goddess Morrigan, and travels through time to meet up with his now 1,000 year old vampire brother and the hottie witch who visited him in a dream. Most of the book is them getting to know each other and their new friends also recruited by Morrigan, and Hoyt and witch Glenna making out in the castle where they are training.
I wish the one Black character wasn't immediately killed (although I should have anticipated it since there are never people of color in Nora's stories)
. I am also sure the next two books will be about other couples and am not sure yet who that will be (although Cian spent a lot of time looking at the queen, Moira, who showed up from an alternate universe). Stay tuned.
