This was a children book that was on my list of summer vacation reading book back in the eighth grade ,but instead i had picked hounds of baskerville . After reading it at the ripe old age of 35 years , i kinda regret not reading it back then

WHAT I LIKED:

I went into this , expecting very little , "it's a children book afterall" , turns out , you really shouldnt judge a book by its cover because from start to finish i had an entertaining time reading through a vast characters of mostly children and adolescents trying to figure out whudunnit and while doing that hoping to inherit a boat load of money .

It was entertaining to read along and see all the characters grow and finish the book as an alternate but more mature version of themselves and honestly for a children book by the time i reached the back cover i detested no character having understood each and everyone for what their respective motives behind their actions were .

But the shining moment for this book comes with the fact that this book manages to involve it's readers into playing the guessing game and serving all it's clues for the reader to decipher all the mysteries and dare-i-say , i could figure out none of it.

The eventual reveal didnt feel far fetched or out-of-nowhere outcome and somehow managed to deliver a genuinely happy outcome for all its varied characters while bringing a smile onto my face and ensuring i dont feel cheated by all the twists and turns.

OPINION:

There's obviously a few loose ends and arcs that i didnt care for much , but for a 200 page book the pacing of the story , it's characters and the plot twists all kept me thoroughly entertained . Enough to ignore the few fallacies and deliver this book a perfect score from my POV. Children book it maybe but it deals with murder , blood , racism , disability and more . And honestly i love it and cant wait for my son to hopefully eventually read it and enjoy it as much as i did .

Read out of pure nostalgia. This used to be one of my favorite books when I was a kid. First published in 1978, it has not held up well over the years.

short, quippy and intelligently written, though many twists caused me to stop guessing and continue reading for the answer.
