As with many high fantasy setups, it took me a decent amount of time to feel like I understood and could follow the magic system. If you can power through some confusion for the first chunk of this novel, it will pay off for you in SPADES. This book is phenomenal. There are twists and turns, and delightful characters that feel fleshed out and make you root for them. This novel walks the line between being able to stand decently on its own, and making you want to grab the sequel immediately. I can’t wait to see where these characters in this entrancing world end up!

Fun magic system, great pacing and enjoyable characters. Ultimately a bit predictable and I need Sanderson to stop using the word maladroitly. But I loved rooting for Vin as she found comfort in her power.
