Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan (audiobook narrated by Julia Whelan)
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
A charming, heartfelt and life-affirming romance that demonstrates exactly how good the genre can be.
Whelan is one of the most prolific audiobook narrators around, so finding a book she'd written herself to listen to was a treat! She does an absolutely fantastic job with all of the characters, who are already written so well with distinct voices, but there is an extra level of quality that comes from her narration that is impossible to ignore.
Sewanee as a main character is instantly captivating - she is equal parts entertaining and authentic, so full of depth and humanity, she is impossible not to love. Nick is wonderfully flawed but so charming and endearing. All of the supporting characters, as previously mentioned, justify their existence by progressing the story whilst existing in their own right.
The romance itself is deliciously slow. Whelan draws out the tension so beautifully, but their happily ever after is never in doubt. Their banter is laugh out loud, their chemistry is incredible, and the
minimal on page sex was satisfying (though I wouldn't complain about getting more!)
The real winning aspect of this novel for me is how brilliantly light and shade is balanced. There are several significantly heavy scenes, but the book is never weighed down by them. Humour is always used thoughtfully, not excessively, to show character's vulnerabilities and to manipulate tension. Hope is never far away, but the lows feel awful all the same.
I feel like I've struggled to truly connect to the romances I've been reading so far this year, but this was perfectly tropey, swoon-worthy and utterly delightful from start to finish. I cannot recommend it enough!

"Feelings are temporary. They stick around as long as you believe in them and then they're gone, waiting to be believed in again. If they were permanent, then we'd only have to say I love you once and be done with it for the rest of our lives."

I enjoyed this rom-com set in the world of audiobook narrators.
tongue-in-cheek about romcom tropes, genuinely funny, endearing flawed characters
mostly closed-door romance but some racy banter

Written by a prolific audio book narrator, this follows the story of an audio book narrator. I listened to it and enjoyed the dialogue and a peek into the narrator’s life.
