The story up until this point was amazing, I loved reading it. The ending however completely ruined it for me and I would have rather read an incomplete series than this one. All character development was completely ruined by the ending of this book and was as if the entire plot never happened in relevance.

“But Ana Kuya used to tell me that hope was tricky like water. Somehow it always found a way in.”
I don’t have a lot to say about this. It was a good end to the series but I can’t help but feel that something’s missing. Everything felt to simple for how much build up there had been. Also, everything bad that happened happened because they were betrayed on numerous occasions, it wasn’t thanks to the Darkling’s cunning even though they had painted him as such a dangerous person.
I also feel underwhelmed at how little the darkling was included in book two and three compared to how big of a part he was in book one. He went from a possible romantic interest to only being mentioned at times. It was like Bardugo wanted us to feel like he was a big part of the book, especially for Alina, but never bothered to show us that.

My thoughts on this series is complicated. While I enjoy a fantasy like this there is definitely an element of hard to read thru syndrome. Part of me thinks the story would have worked better with Mal dying in the end but then I don’t like the idea of her being with someone else. Hard to say it was worse then the others or if I just got tired after giving in birth.

Loved. I'm kind of sad that she didn't end up with Nikolai but I loved it nevertheless! Can't wait to dive into Six of Crows.

Probably the best book in the series. It was much more exciting than the second book and I was more attached to the characters. I was surprised by how invested I became in the story.
