This novel was very divisive amongst my book club, which is a good thing! Overall I enjoyed this novel, with unique characters and unique storytelling. I have to agree with others that it feels a little too overstuffed and writing comes across a little pretentious at times. The author has a bizarre sense of humor, which I appreciated. Gunty touches on several important societal issues: the foster care system, impoverished communities, the failures of capitalism, predatory men, and global warming, to name a few. I wish that the author had focused on fewer  themes and gone more in-depth.

Bit too weird for me. The ending brought it together but definitely too long chapters and too many miserable characters!

Really love the premise, the purple prose, and the mystery of the apartment complex’s inhabitants. I wish that the plot was a bit more fleshed out for some of it.

not for everyone - I didn’t even think it was for me at first. but the more I read, the more I enjoyed it, and the more intimately attached to the book I became. weird and wonderful.

Loved the writing. Very human. Didn’t like that Blandine lived in the end when the entire story made it seem like she had died. She was quite obnoxious to me, especially in
her final conversation with James in the car
.
