I’m so glad I stuck with this series because I am really enjoying it now!

Peter has come into his own more and I really enjoyed his narrative voice in this instalment. Many of his… less than desirable traits have fallen away and left a nerdy, enthusiastic, curious, somewhat “the lights are on but nobody’s home” main character that is someone I can actually root for.

Alongside all the old favourites there are some good new characters that I’m excited to hear more about, and the villains are VILLAINOUS! All the double-crossing and setting of traps has led us to a great showdown, but it’s not over yet! Aaronovitch definitely knows how to write compelling fight sequences.

ngl at the start I really wanted Peter and Lesley to be together but now I’m definitely a huge Beverley fan. The conversation with Peter and Tyburn over drinks was really saddening and I definitely would have liked that to have gone deeper, but I also don’t think it’s in her character to divulge so much personal information to Peter who she doesn’t always get on well with.

Loving listening to the Peter Grant books on Audible. It's so nice to cozy up with my husband, my knitting and a cup of tea in the evening now that the nights are getting so chilly.

I listened to this as an audiobook over the course of a few months. Tracking down the audiobook was also an annoying affair, as every single one of my library cards doesn't have it, despite the rest of the series being readily available.

This is the one where shit goes down. It's the Dresden Files equivalent of Changes. There isn't quite the devastating delivery that Changes brings, but a plot line that's been dancing around the last 4 books finally came to the forefront in quite the bombastic fashion, with some tense magical battles. The ending of this was highly satisfying, the culmination of this book is really where it shines. I hope we don't see a drop in quality in this series going forth. cough

The audiobooks continue to be excellent, Kobna Holdbrook Smith does a phenomenal performance.

The chapter changes didn't have the jazz ditty, which I missed.

Okay, it's gotten to the point that I'm reading these so fast that I tend to have the next book read before I try to rate & review the previous one, and the blurring is a problem. Oops!
Finally, an important mystery is solved - what did Peter find out about Molly's computer use from his key logger?? At least, I think it was this book. Ahem.
This one seemed to be about as police-procedural as these could get. So many people to interview, and re-interview, that I had to regularly pause and remind myself and my co-reader "oh, that's the dad of the girl who I think was at the party, but not the dead girl."
