The first part of the book is what she had written up to the time of her death. I did not like the direction of the story at all, but once I read the hows and whys she was writing it the way she did I felt better. The second half of the book told the story of [a:Olive Ann Burns|52627|Olive Ann Burns|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1275666601p2/52627.jpg]'s life, marriage and family. It brought the story of Will and his family to completion. I'm pleased I took the time to read this book.

Given to me by a friend, I didn't expect to like a book a bout the South. Beyond that, I remember I had fun reading it & I liked the variety of characters.

I think I cried through most of this book. Despite being a serious reader I had never even registered that Cold Sassy Tree existed until seeing it at the bookstore a few weeks ago. Read it. Loved it. Wanted more. So hubby picked this sequel-of-sorts for me and it's a perception changer...well, I knew this perspective was in me, but now it's working it's way out. The story continuance is what I went in for, but the author's way of living is what is going to stay with me.

Was not crazy about the 2nd book, too dark of a story following the 1st one. Maybe if the author had been able to finish the story...who knows.

A different sort of story.

I was sad that Burns wasn't able to finish this novel, but in a way, I wish she wouldn't have written one. I liked the way Cold Sassy Tree ended.

I feel misled. This was not a great second part to the original. Rather, it is some chapters and notes from author Olive Ann Burns prior to her death. She never finished the book, and reading the chapters she had finished along with her notes for future chapters did not bring closure to the Cold Sassy experience. I should have let well enough alone.
