This book is in one word stunning . The story is so wholesorm and heart warming , We follow a little girl Kalia who has lived in a refugee camp in Thailand since she can remember . The people of Thailand were keeping the members of the Hmong tribe captive . Kalia is full of joy and hope and she asks her father if all the world was a refugee camp , to this he takes her to the trees and shows her the wide expanse of the beautiful world that awaited her beyond the refugee camp . I can only imagine what a exciting view it might have been for little Kalia from the top of the trees .
The illustrations of this book were beyond amazing , each page was so detailed and well thought of , the colour scheme was also on point . Highly highly recommend it .
Thank you to Netgaley for an arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinions .

The color use in this book really sets a simple, somber tone with muted browns and greens and natural colors. I like how the books shows the difficulty of the refugee camp but also shows the joy of a child because small children have a special magic to find joy in mundane things. When they got dressed up in their best clothes I thought they were going to leave the refugee camp and go out in to the world. It surprised me and broke my heart a little that they climbed a tree. I love that this is based on the author's life and there is a real photo of them in the tree top at the end along with background information.
