OH. MY. GOD.
Well, then, that's me terrified of the moon!
I have never read a more thrilling book in my entire life. I finished this book on the plane from London to Norway and I was straight out crying. Yep. I was so scared, so freaked out, so sad and distraught. This book is absolutely terrifying. In some ways, it reminded me of the Doctor Who two-parter The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, which scares me to death even after so many years.

I was a bit hesitant about this book being written by a Norwegian author, as I normally don't like Norwegian books at all. That is also why I chose to read this in English rather than Norwegian, which is my native language. The translator has done a brilliant job. The writing is alive and flows well. I loved it.

Definitely read this book if you like creepy, twisted stuff. You won't regret it. You'll never look at the moon the same way again!

this is a horror novel, not a sci-fi book, therefore i’m gonna ignore the science here.
This book could’ve been so much better if instead of building a “romance” it worked on the friendships, the characters.
The idea scared me, made me anxious, but the characters felt so unreal and alien it took away lot of the dread.

I wanted to really enjoy this book as it's one that's been on my TBR for probably 6-ish years and I finally decided to pick it up

It was just "good". It read more like a young teen book rather than a YA book (which I think it's supposed to be...) i.e so many characters will say "as you all know" to shove in some exposition: one specific example is when one character goes "as you all know I'm the pilot for this mission..." when they could have just said "As your pilot..." which would have conveyed the same information without sounding so unnatural.

I REALLY liked the premise but the pacing had... a lot of issues. The main one being you don't even get to the moon until 50% in the book so then it just has rush everything from there to get to the ending...

I really enjoyed the 3 separate kinds of premonition that the 3 main characters have to kind of warn them off of going to moon - it would have been cool to have answers though like what gave them the warnings? since in one case it's made clear that only one of the main characters saw it and no one else did.............

So, the big bad............ I guessed what it would be like 10%(?) in, whenever it is that you get shown that photo with the guy in the background that coupled with the cover for the edition I read I knew from the start we were gunna be dealing with a doppelgänger kind of enemy.... it had SO MUCH potential but kind of did literally nothing with it... like yes, stuff happened but really there was only one good bit where you find out Midori had already been snatched way before we thought she would have been... although her turning on Mia was so stupid like why did she wait and give no sign prior to that.......????????

Basically, in the end, although I really wanted to love it, it was just dumb and fell flat.. Like yes I know this is meant to be a YA book but it was still boring cause like nothing really happened...

Yes, I read the ending for the big "twist". Very cringe, not my thing.

What?! Es lo único que tengo que decir.

7.28.20 update: rating changed to 1.5/5. I dislike this book, but don't have particularly strong feelings toward it.

---------
I think my biggest problem with the book was the pacing. Part 1 felt very slow. There were a few intriguing moments, and it got me curious about what was about to happen, but overall, I felt like Part 1 dragged on a little too long. Then, Part 2 felt extremely rushed, especially after the slowness of Part 1. It seemed like everything happened all at once and then suddenly I had reached the end. I felt like Part 2 needed to be fleshed out a little, and Part 1 could have been cut down some. Aside from the pacing, however, I enjoyed the book. It kept me interested and curious, only giving me little bits and pieces of information at a time. I think I expected a little too much and therefore was slightly disappointed, but overall I really enjoyed the book.

I'd love to meet any of the people that rated this higher than a 1. this was awful.

One of the worst books I've ever read in my life. The writing was awful, the characters were awful and oh...THIS IS SO BORING.

Mia was okay but still really annoying especially with her family. Antoine was basically pointless and midori is Japanese so she can tell scary ancient Japanese stories...fucking awful characters and zero development between any of them.

Skip most of this book but don't get excited cause the ending is awful and makes almost no sense. The dopplegangers on the moon (WHY? THAT IS TERRIBLE) somehow got to earth??? What? I just felt like this was notes for this book and instead of putting stuff together and coming up with more the author said fuck it and submitted this to be published. I'm so annoyed at how bad this was written.

NASA lost fuunding....only logical thing to do is send 14-18 year olds to the moon but we'll make it so that it's a contest.

This was beyond bad. It was beyond terrible.

I have more thoughts but to not obliterate this author I'm done.
