Sinceramente pasé meses y meses tratando de leerlo porque solo conseguía llorar WUAJAJAJAJ y lloro muchísimo al punto de que lloré hasta en el colegio por este libro pero es BUENISIMO, en mi opinión la autora tiene mucha delicadeza y certeza para expresarse, escribe de una manera tan única y paciente, como que todo está bien hecho, todo a su debido tiempo, y eso me encanta, escribe hermoso, gracias por esta obra maestra que me hace creer en el amor verdadero ante toda adversidad
Romance brutale, trama smorzata e monotona. La psiche di Rigel giustificata dalla sua diagnosi è una forzatura colossale, che promuove un’ideologia di un amore tossico e deleterio. La componente queer, pressoché inesistente, viene inserita forzatamente per delineare come non sempre siano predisposti happy ending per le sapphic. Sarebbe stato fisiologico il racconto un finale brusco, svilendo il rapporto tra Nica e Rigel, mantenendo così un alone di mistero attorno alla figura del “fabbricante di lacrime”. Lo stile di scrittura risulta indubbiamente screziato e scorrevole, tuttavia assiduamente ripetitivo in alcuni paragrafi.

to be honest i finished it out of spite. the narrativeis like wattpad 2014, everything is over explained and to be honest it could have finish earlier than when it did.

When I first saw the title I thought there would be more fantasy elements in it, I was sadly mistaken. I have many reasons as to why this book is at 1.75, which is my lowest rating of this year so far.
First, my thoughts on the main couple: Nica and Rigel. I found their love story as a bit odd mainly due to the fact that for most of the story they are going to be adopted into the same family. Now, it is mentioned several times that anything they do after being adopted would be incest. Even though the story takes place before any adoption goes through, this fact seems weird and incestuous. Now for a spoiler so careful when reading. It took far too long for Rigel to request not to be adopted by Anna and Norman. It took far too long for the reader to become aware of that fact. I would have much preferred if the reader found out that he requested it before Nica did. Now, he should have requested to not be adopted before they kissed, let alone became intimate. Honestly, I think I would have liked this story more if the adoption part was not in it or at least not been for both of them and if it was a college story where the main characters were older. It could have been more about a found family and that would have been nice and would have taken the almost incest out of it.
Essentially every boy that Nica interacted with was possessive over her and were narcissistic and felt ownership over her. I think this was to show how naive Nica is, but it felt like that point was over-emphasized. Honestly, Norman was the only nice male figure that Nica interacted with this whole book.
The representation of trauma was very good in this book I felt. I do wish there was a trigger warning or something before I started this book. So a serious trigger warning for the harming of children and flashbacks about that.
I did get confused about where this was for a while, especially when the Houston police came in. That might have just been me. The fact that this was written by an Italian and then translated might be the explanation for some of my confusion though.
Honestly, Miki and Billie were the main reason that I kept reading the book for so long and did not DNF this book. The last 100 to 150 pages raised the rating from a 1 star to a 1.75. The last three or four chapters kept feeling like an ending. I would get to the end of a chapter and think it was the end, but there was always more. I think there might have been a way to cut that down or feel like it was still things to wrap up. It felt that the author wanted to tie up every single plot line, including the childhood abuser, which I can appreciate but I do wish there was a way to shorten or make it feel like the plot was still chugging along.

Straziante. Ecco cos’è questo libro. E lo intendo come il miglior complimento del monto. FDL è uno di quei romanzi che ti si siede sullo stomaco e ci rimane fino a quando non arrivi all’ultima pagina, tirandoti delle gomitate nel pancreas di tanto in tanto, così, giusto per essere sicuri che tu ti stia struggendo.
Le premesse erano buone, ma anche pericolose. Con i libri che vengono da Wattpad c’è sempre il rischio che la storia prenda una piega… spiacevole, ecco. Soprattutto quando si arrivano a sfiorare temi come malattie mentali, violenze e incesto. Ma Erin le ha gestite magistralmente. Si vede che dietro alla stesura ci sta una ricerca attenta e minuziosa, e nulla viene preso sottogamba. Ogni cosa si intreccia e trova una conclusione nel corso del romanzo.
I personaggi sono ben costruiti e mi piace molto come spesso si riproponga questa contrapposizione fra caratteri solari e amichevoli e altri più chiusi e ponderati (prendi Billie e Miki, Billie e Vincent, Miki e Sarah, o gli stessi Nica e Rigel). Nica e Rigel sono stati una piacevole sorpresa. È vero che ripropongono una dinamica tipica dei romanzi d’amore YA, ovvero la brava ragazza e il bad boy, ma la cosa che mi è piaciuta è che questa dinamica diventa parte integrante della trama, si fonde con la storia stessa, e non ne è un semplice espediente. E soprattutto è giustificata in maniera verosimile dalle premesse della storia.
Infine c’è da dire che lo stile della prosa è estremamente poetico e altisonante. Generalmente io preferisco le prose semplici e colloquiali, ma trovo che questo tipo di scrittura si adatti perfettamente al tipo di narratore che Nica è. Il libro è scritto come se fosse proprio Nica stessa a raccontare la realtà esattamente così come i suoi occhi la percepiscono: caleidoscopica, poetica, drammatica, come se tutto - dagli stimoli sensoriali a quelli emotivi - venisse amplificato e percepito il quadruplo del normale.
Che dire, mi ha fatto stare male, mi ha fatto ridere all’occorrenza, ho apprezzato le scene smut (yay) e sono felice di essermi costretta a leggerlo, dopo mesi che aspettavo!

The writing was okay, but way too long and lengthy and literally nothing was happening so I just stopped.
