I thoroughly enjoyed this volume. Flycatcher was always an under-appreciated character, and now he finally got his chance to shine. I really appreciated his bloodless approach to the Adversary's assaults on Haven...I wish conflicts in the Mundy world could be solved that way.

I appreciate the return to Mark Buckingham's art as well, some of the artists for the previous volume weren't (in my opinion) well-suited to this series.

My favorite volume so far. I love Ambrose so much. And more of the cubs. And a good move forward with the larger story. Plus lots of little touches on ongoing smaller or side stories. PLUS wrapping up some threads from previous issues. Basically everything you could want in a volume.

Fables has, in my opinion, really gone downhill since the first couple of trades, but I keep reading them anyway. I wasn't really expecting much out of this volume, and ended up being pleasantly surprised.

This volume follows Flycatcher, the janitor of Fabletown, and some other characters in a sort of confusing quest to form a 3rd (peaceful) option for the fables in the war against the Adversary. I hadn't read the other books in awhile, so I was a LITTLE confused about what was going on, and who was who, but even so, the story was good.

Mostly I have just not cared about the main characters in recent books (Snow and Bigby are rather boring now), so having some fairly minor characters take the stage was enjoyable. It becomes obvious that Flycatcher and the witch from Hansel and Gretel (Frau someone?) will become more important.

The story revolving around Flycatcher was also just interesting, quick paced, and built around good characters. It was nice to see a plot really advance and stand on its own, since I feel that several of the last few volumes have been more about furthering the larger story arc.

Flycatcher finally steps up and puts on armor.

Aaron Alexovich's art in "The Birthday Secret" is so extraordinarily bad that the pages he illustrated are almost unreadable.

As always, I have mixed feelings about Willingham's handling of gender and race issues (and to a lesser extent, some of the political undertones), but this was an enjoyable volume. I really liked the evolution of Fly's character and the way he used methods other than brute force to make progress.

Beautiful art, interesting takes on classic fairy tale characters and a plot that drew me in from the start. Will need to re-read this one of these days!

I still love this installment of the story, and flycatcher is a favorite character, but this re-read made the deux ex machina of fly's "magic" much more obvious than the first time through. Ah, well.

I think I'm officially in love with Flycatcher!

I loved his story; you can't help but fall in love with this character!
