3.5 - would have been a 4 but some of the risqué scenes were a little cringy. But otherwise I loved it!

Man, I don’t know, I think maybe Tessa Bailey just isn’t for me. I didn’t love the characters and I didn’t really feel the connection between them. But more then that, I am just seriously thrown for a loop every time the author writes and FMC who sticks her fingers in the guys butt without any warning 💀😂 like girl, I just need a little break or like a discussion beforehand lmao.
But back to the story.. the MMC was married and widowed and still wears his ring but then Piper comes along and actually he never even liked his late wife?? That’s wild behavior lol. Maybe if they had a flashback or something to show the dynamic? But him saying he’s never loved anyone to Piper when he was fully married before is such loser behavior lol. And don’t get me started on the third act miscommunication bullshit. Like why is he so stressed that she’s got backup plans?? She’s known you for like less than 3 months, having backups is literally the single rational and smart decision she made in her life.
I can’t count how many times I rolled my eyes
Unfortunately I will still be reading the next one bc it’s a duology and my brain just can’t stand not finishing a story.

The smut scene with the verbiage used is so funny and cringey. I was having second hand embarrassment ong. Overall, the book was okey if you just want a palette cleanser, the found family/community was the best part of the book

This isn’t quite the worst book I’ve ever read, but it is close.
Before I even get into the actual plot, this woman has clearly never been to Washington or researched crab fishing - honestly, I’m not even certain Ms. Tessa Bailey knows how to use Google. I mean, seriously, a typhoon, in Washington? A tropical storm? Oil rigs off the coast of Washington? The coast of Alaska, maybe. Not to mention the complete and total lack of understanding of crab fishing. I won’t even get into it, but an episode of Deadliest Catch would’ve done her some good.
Piper was insufferable from the get go. She had absolutely no personality beyond “socialite,” and as much as I am loathe to say it, she didn’t evolve any further past that than beyond deciding she was in love with Brendan. Who is her complete and total opposite, and not in a cute way. The chemistry was nonexistent.
Brendan is also, unfortunately, insufferable. He treats Piper like a child, and does not see her as anything more than a body for the vast majority of the book. Once again, utterly baffling to me. He lists all these attributes that she has at one point that he loves, and Piper does not exhibit a single one of these.
The sex scenes in this were painfully unsexy. Tessa Bailey has the least creative descriptive language in her books I’ve ever read, until it comes to the sex scenes - and then I just find myself wishing that she would be significantly less creative. Just call them by their names at some point, I’m begging you.
I’m at a total loss as to what people find enjoyable about this novel. It’s written at a YA level, the characters have absolutely no substance beyond following into stereotypical heteronormative caricatures, and has some of the worst smut I’ve ever read with my own two eyes. Tyler Hoechlin, never make me read anything like this for you ever again. I will not forgive you.
I hope the adaptation is better than this slop, otherwise I might cry.

This was a fun summer read!
I decided to give Tessa Bailey’s books a proper go as I haven’t loved any of the novellas that I’ve read by her but thought a full book might be better. Thankfully this was. I really enjoyed this opposites attract and grumpy vs sunshine story. The characters were fun and likeable, the writing was engaging and the setting was quaint.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Piper or if she was going to be too shallow but actually she was charming and full of energy. Her and Brendan together were great.
All in all this was well worth the read and I’ll certainly be happy to pick up the second book in the series.
