Take a moment and dance in his rain
What a beautiful slow burn and journey of self worth. I've had this book for ages, but only got a chance to read it while listening to the audio at work. But I couldn't stop when I got home, so I picked up my e-copy.
Natalie and Rhodes find themselves together while both are questioning what they bring to life. Natalie feels like the DUFF in her world. Rhodes feels like he fails everything and everyone around him. The story begins with Natalie's high school sweetheart broke up with her after two years and started dating a "Barbie girl" only two days later. Her mother suggests a personal trainer and we're introduced to Rhodes, he's 4 years older and has had a hard life that most know nothing about. She's a light for him and he's her silent strength. I enjoyed their journey to seeing they are both worth someone's unconditional love. There were ups and downs, twist and turns, moments and big impacts.
I'm glad I finally got around to this story.

I loved the story. I loved Natalie and fell in love with rhodes. I’m giving this a 3.5 just because i felt the twist at the end was unnecessary. It all felt like too much to me. Lana appearing after three years and not once did she try to get in contact with her brother?! ugh Idk I think the story was beautiful and it didn’t need this big twist. I do recommend it though!

I have had Weightless on my Kindle for over a year, and on my TBR even longer. Everyone raves about Kandi Steiner's books in the Romance world, and I knew it was time to get on board, especially after meeting her in person at Holidays with the Belles. Kandi was ridiculously awesome and gracious! After enjoying Weightless as much as I did, I'm eager to read A Love Letter to Whiskey (I got it signed!!) and Way to You as soon as possible. Too many books, not enough time, amiright?
I've never read a book that spoke to my interests quite like Weightless. It featured some of my first loves, photography and fitness, as some of the main themes in this story. Like many of us in the late 2000's, I dabbled in photography and loved the chance of being able to express myself creatively through this particular medium. I also jumped on the Crossfit train in 2010 and transformed my body over the course of a few years. With both of these topics making themselves present in this book, I was eager to read more.
“I guess I just love the power of being able to temporarily freeze a moment in time, even if it’s not as good as the real thing. I like being able to pick up a photo, close my eyes, and feel that place and time again.”
Natalie has recently graduated high school, she's been dumped by her boyfriend, and has no plans for the direction her life will take. Determined to change things over the course of the summer (and win her boyfriend back), she decides to start working with a personal trainer. Enter Rhodes. Hot, hunky, former high school bad boy, and current personal trainer. Of course, the first thing that happens between these two is every girl's nightmare when meeting a nice-looking hunk of man meat - "step on the scale". I wanted to die for Natalie! When the workouts commenced, however, I was loving every second of these two together.
“You’re weightless. The world hasn’t touched you yet. You’re not heavy with the weight of pain, and guilt, and selfishness.”
Rhodes is totally the strong silent type - read: my type! His ability to cut to the core of Natalie's issues and helping her overcome them to truly change her life was everything I hoped for. I loved the interactions between him and Natalie, the intensity they couldn't help but share, and Natalie's attitude towards breaking down Rhodes' barriers. In so many ways I felt like I was reading about myself, though I can't say I'd see myself pining after a guy like Mason. Her determination was inspiring, so much so that I was going to choose to relax and read one morning rather than do my own workout. As I read Kandi's description of Natalie's workout, I couldn't help but get off my butt and hit my garage gym. I craved feeling my muscles burn and the accomplishment of having completed a killer workout. I have to say that experience was a first for me, so thank you, Kandi, for motivating me to move!
I think my favorite thing about Weightless, besides the subject matter, was the depth of the story without feeling overly burdensome. There was a perfect balance of tough topics and light moments with the characters. My only real complaint was the misleading blurb. It absolutely doesn't fit this story whatsoever, and I ended up getting something entirely than I expected. In some ways, this book wasn't quite as exciting as I hoped it would be, but it was an overall enjoyable and fast-paced read. I'm anxious to pick up more of Kandi's books this year!

Disappointed. I loved her book A Love Letter to Whiskey, and immediately started to look for more books that she had written and added them to my to-read list. And also considering the amazing reviews this book had, I was expecting a lot. But turns out the reviews made it sound much better than the actual book.. :/
It was still readable, and it had meaning. About learning to overcome your insecurities, etc. But I didn't really feel the chemistry between Natalie and Rhode. And I couldn't really sympathise with Natalie. Sure, she was in a state I wouldn't want to find myself in, but somehow... I just didn't have the patience to read about her insecurities.
There's just something missing in this book.
Maybe another time I would want to give this another go but for now, DNF at 45%.

It's refreshing to read a main character who struggles with self confidence and her body weight and endevored her continuing battle. Natalie doesn't fit in to either body type that NA heroines typically have, thin and healthy, thin and struggles with body weight, or curvy and confident. I might be forgetting others...
I read alot of new adult so I haven't come across characters like Natalie.
Aside from that, I enjoyed the story.

Great read!
This was a good story! It had a little mystery, a brooding hero with a past, and a heroine with good character development. I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

When you read a blurb that is so hauntingly poetically beautiful, so emotive that your heart swells with emotion and tears mist your eyes, so intriguing that you’re left thinking about it days later, you know this is a book you need to read. This was my first Kandi Steiner read, but not my last- and has always been one of my favorites. For me, Weightless is a book that both hurts and heals, a story that feels incredibly intimate and invasive, because I see so much of myself in the story being told, so much of my own heart beat in the emotion and feelings inspired.
Natalie, our newly minted high school graduate, has just been dumped. Like so many newer adults, she’s lost- struggling with who she is, who others want her to be, and her own insecurities, her own feelings of self-worth, which are catalyzed based on her break-up, her ex’s new girlfriend, and the changing social world around her. Her confidence is shattered, and like so many women, myself included, we (unhealthily) tie our perceptions of ourselves in our physical appearance. So, Natalie decides to be proactive and make a change- joins a gym and gets some training. She ends up getting trained by Rhodes, who was a senior in her school when she was a freshman- and he was always an alluring, trouble making mystery to her.
I related to Natalie so much, it felt like Kandi had stripped pieces of my own soul and put them into this character. The feelings of being trapped in your own body, the discomfort in your own skin, feeling judged based on the way you look and who you are friends with/dating, feeling like an outsider in your own world, all of it. And, as someone who also went through a body transformation, I know the kaleidoscope of emotions and existential crisis that is created by simply getting healthier- it only exacerbates your body issues, because the focus on your body is even MORE magnified than it was before. It’s emotionally exhausting, crippling, and confusing- and I felt every ounce of Natalie’s experience, every single emotionally high and low- because I felt such a kindred connection to her and her journey. But, Kandi has given me a gift- I loved and admired Natalie, which in turn means there are parts of me that I need to love and admire as well, because I am so much like Natalie. The way she decided to drive her own destiny, her tender heart, her floundering in her life direction, feeling unclear who she was or what she wanted- that struggle is so real, so familiar, and so tenderly told. The inner strength she found, her internal metamorphosis was so endearing.
Rhodes took a minute for me to understand and love- he’s so complicated, so brooding. He helps Natalie see herself in a different light, builds her up, but he’s incredibly hot and cold. He’s so dreamily mysterious, you just know when you crack him you will love him- he’s clearly got a lot of baggage impacting his actions. And even though I didn’t always understand him, I LOVED him with Natalie. They have a magnetic, soulful, visceral connection and a sizzling chemistry. The kind of connection that helps each of them heal their pain, helps each of them find the best in themselves. It is so beautiful, so endearing, and definitely hot. There’s a lot of push-pull here, but I love that they have a foundation of friendship and mutual care at the core- it makes their connection so palpable, so believable.
Kandi’s writing is phenomenal - she’s such a gifted master of prose. Her writing is at times poetic, always poignant- she gives us a lot of angst, a lot of emotion, and some beautiful developed characters with a masterfully woven chemistry between them. I felt so moved, so riveted, so enthralled in this story- a love story between two lost and hurt people in one beat, as well as a love story between a lost, insecure girl and herself.

I LOVED this book, so much that I don't even know where to start in my review. I was a fat kid who turned into a fat teen and stayed fat into adulthood. I related so much to Natalie - parents who were so obsessed with image that I was subtly belittled every day for my weight. I never had a hot personal trainer to fall in love with though! This is such an important story about loving and accepting who you are, no matter what you look like. The plot twist with the stepdad though was not something I was expecting! I also loved the happy ending where Rhodes was reunited with his sister.
