A great story with a really rich world. Only wish it was longer.

“True art was more than beauty; it was more than technique. It was not just imitation.”

Phenomenal. The magic and the mechanics are clearly crafted by a talented hand, and the plot is a tightly-woven testament to the writer's skill, but it's the two lead characters that make this book come to life so authentically. They breathe, they believe, they - well, they have souls.

I crave more!

My first dip into the Cosmere-verse and it was certainly a interesting one at that. Did this as a buddy read, which was a bit of a failure, but mostly because this was something I devoured and didn't have a lot of on-going commentary/thought on.

The magical system seems REALLY interesting and I'm hoping to add some more Sanderson to my TBR.

Such a short and interesting novella! I don't know what to feel rn other than my soul being literally rejuvenated.

As usual, I loved the book just like every other Brandon Sanderson's books. It was engaging, and I felt connected to the characters though it was shorter than most other books. Following Shai along her quest as she finds a way to her freedom is fun. The interactions between Shai and Gaotona was one of the best things about the book. The way they both try to understand each other through their interactions and try and learn what's going on with each other which leads to impacting each other is well written.
