A sweet, slow burn.

Nate is the twin brother of Ford ( the hero of book 1) and Nyx is the older sister of Persy ( the heroine of book 1).

Nate is 35. He lives an adrenalin-filled lifestyle when not running the business side of his and his brother's investment company. Since being deceived by his ex-fiancee 5 years ago he's been a bit of a playboy, but that aspect is getting old. Now that Ford has found love Nate is a bit jealous and realises that without his brother he will be lonely.

Nyx is almost 30. A successful lawyer, she's the level-headed, 5-year-planner of her family. Her life seems to revolve around work, putting out fires and problem-solving for her family. She has never had a serious relationship and she is starting to see what she might be missing.

Nyx and Nate become friends through their siblings, but despite a mutual physical attraction, they have been warned by their sister and brother not to get involved, because a fling that ends awkwardly would make things difficult for future family gatherings.

When Nyx unexpectedly discovers she is pregnant from a forgettable one-night stand with a work colleague that occurred a few weeks before they met, Nyx knows that Nate could only ever be a friend.

Nate really likes Nyx and wants to help her, especially now, when she discovers her pregnancy the same week she loses her job and decides to sell her home. He offers her a place to stay and unconditional support while she makes a plan for her life moving forward.

There is a lovely, gradual deepening of feelings between the MC'S. Both have issues in their pasts that need closure. They are mature in their approach to their burgeoning relationship. They treat each other with love and respect without putting any pressure on defining their relationship until they both feel they can give 100% to the other person. I liked it.

This book contains a mildly descriptive love scene.

We first met Nyx and Nate in Wrong Text, Right Love as the siblings of our main characters. Nyx is this no-nonsense attorney who breaks the mold of her quirky and odd family, and Nate is the thrill seeking twin of reclusive grump, Ford. They meet when dealing with their respective siblings, and while there is an instant attraction there, Nyx and Nate agree to disagree and stay friends instead.

When Nyx gets fired and discovers she’s pregnant from a one-night stand with a coworker (the evil boss’s nephew), her unlikely support comes from Nate.

Nate has some baggage from a past relationship gone bad, but seriously kudos to him for recognizing his issues and dealing with them. Claudia Burgoa is so great at dealing with real life situations and helping to normalize them. So often in romance therapy is seen as a woman’s problem so it’s entirely refreshing to see a male main character going to therapy or counseling.

One thing that this book is lacking is sexual heat. This is an extreme slow burn but that makes the relationship between Nyx and Nate even sweeter.

I love this story so much even though feels too good to be true. How Nate and Nyx deals with their problem and finally having a beautiful ending.

Not gonna lie I wasn't sure of Nate in the beginning. I must say that man surprised me in the best of ways. He has his swoon worthy moments. I loved the humor in this one especially with Nyx's family. As you read you can't help wish you were a part of them. This one brings the humor, but also the heart and feels. This book left me with a huge smile on my face. This book also has enough angst that I wished karma would visit a certain character. When it did it was glorious moment! I would definitely recommend this one. You're going to have a hard time putting it down.

I listened to this book on audio.
Talk about sloooooooooooow buuuuuuuuurn romance.
This might have been the most agonizing, I-want-them-to-be-together feeling that I've ever experienced while reading. The story definitely called for it.
Nyx and Nate couldn't be more opposite but somehow they worked out perfectly for one another.
I love when a character that is put together falls to circumstances beyond their control and Nyx had me cracking up over her dilemma. At times, I wanted to fight for her. Talk about dedication and loyalty... Nate was a dream. The narrators nailed these characters and I really enjoyed the whole experience.

I was so intrigued with the Chadwick Brothers when I first read about them.  And now we get Nate's story.  We get the fantastically slow burn of Nyx and Nate.

I was absolutely swooning over Nathaniel! They way that he cared for Nyx when she didn't even realize she needed caring for.  The way that he didn't smother, but was able to embrace her quirks and her whole self.

I also was so happy to see how both Nyx and Nate were able to keep their relationship as it should have been, they both had issues and scars to resolve and heal from, but they way they were able to do it platonically and honestly was beautiful to read.  The slow burn of their relationship was emotional and fabulous!

The secondary characters were amazing and brought even more to this story, they brought humor and heart and above all else a sense of family and belonging!

Get your hands on this wonderful story! I love the worlds that Ms. Burgoa has created and I cannot wait to see what's next!

Didn't Expect You was delightful! I'm not even sure how I found Claudia Burgoa. I think I was browsing through Kindle deals and picked the first one in this series up for free. After that I immediately bought the second one (almost unheard of for me to buy a book I haven't pre-read to make sure I love it). I really enjoyed this first book but this one was even better. Nyx and Nate didn't disappoint. One thing: I was under the impression that Nyx was having Nate's baby. That's not the case. At first I was a little hesitant but it ended up being a great twist. It made for some interesting drama with the baby daddy.

Nate and Nyx were both wonderful. Nate is portrayed as a playboy at first but he develops so quickly into a caring, kind man with the perfect amount of arrogance. He is working through some past baggage but does it at a great pace. Nyx is my favorite kind of heroine. Super smart, capable but still has a touch of vulnerability, which really makes sense given that she is unexpectedly pregnant and jobless. I love how their relationship progressed through her pregnancy.
Spoiler There is almost zero sexy times in here. Throughout most of the book all they do is kiss a couple of times and usually those are even pretty chaste. I feel like it made the book even more intimate because their relationship is not at all based on sex.
I loved that our characters communicated wonderfully. The secondary characters take more of a backseat in this book, but we still get some great scenes with Nyx's family and Nate's brother.

I'm so glad I took a chance on an unknown (by me) author and grabbed her free book. I'm going to be on the hunt for some of her backlist titles now!

I absolutely loved this wonderful, and endearing, slow burn romance! After meeting Nathaniel Chadwick and Nyx Brassard in the first book, I couldn't wait to read more about them! Nate and Nyx have lived very different lives but are alike in so many ways. They are both hard working successful people, are close with their families, and find themselves cleaning up their siblings messes. Their first meeting was as adversaries, advocating for their brother and sister from book one, but also had a mutual respect and attraction for each other. They eventually became friends and when Nyx found out she was pregnant, Nate immediately wanted to be there for her. Nyx had a unique upbringing traveling around the world. She wants a normal life and a secure home and Nate wants to help her have all her dreams. He is so sweet and swoony how he takes care of Nyx, from holding her hair when she's sick, to indulging her as she spoils his dog. But Nate has been burned before and no matter how close he and Nyx become, he isn't sure he is capable of opening his heart completely.
I absolutely loved, loved, loved this slow burn romance so much! Ms Burgoa expertly weaved a rich and captivating story, allowing these wonderful characters to take their time to meet, talk, learn more about each other, share their thoughts, their feelings, their lives, and only then allowing them to find love through that effort. That is the kind of love story that feels genuine and real and one I will always believe in, and this was all that and more! I also loved each of their family dynamics, they were all fun and quirky, and completely loving and supportive. I really enjoyed catching up with characters from other books as well. This fun, emotional and steamy romance is so engaging, it captured my heart and made me completely happy!
