James Baldwin

4.61 AVERAGE

It’s interesting to me reading Baldwin just how much of his work deals with religion, the place of religion and it’s failures. This in mind, I think the media about Baldwin and his work is actually quite reductive. “Down at the Cross” connects religion, as it’s dolled out in the west, inevitably and obviously to white supremacy as an “indisputable justification for the planting of the flag”. Nothing, especially those things touted as the sacred, in the west can be separated from the violence of “whiteness” and from capital. Absolutely nothing.
