I absolutely loved how this book celebrated the deaf community! It was so informative, and I really appreciated how, as Charlie learned more about deaf culture through her new curriculum, the reader got to learn the same history alongside her. It was a fantastic way to weave in real facts while staying tied to the story.

The story itself did fall a bit flat for me, and the ending felt a little rushed, but overall, I had a great time with this audiobook. I learned a lot and really enjoyed hearing the sound of the signing alongside the dialogue.

I think it read well - was engaging. I appreciated the history and other « curriculum » included.
I didn’t care for the
sex, drugs, criminal activity, and violence.

This was maybe the most informative fiction piece I’ve ever read! I started it thinking I knew a decent amount about Deaf culture but quickly learned that there is so much more than I knew or understood. Giving it a 4 because the plot itself was lacking for me, but the characters and their experiences were very thought provoking and interesting. The moral I took from this story: at our core, we all just want to belong, to communicate, and be understood as our authentic selves. A fun bonus for me was that the story was based in Cincinnati! Highly recommend especially now with July being Disability Pride Month!
