I discovered May Archer’s books this year and I’ve torn through all of the O’Leary books, one of my favourites happened to be Micah and Con’s story. When I started this I didn’t know it was Mason, Micah’s brother because I just knew I’d like it without reading the blurb

An excellent romance between two beautiful but jaded/hurt people - which makes you doubly glad they found THEIR HEA.

Absolutely loved it! Need more from Whispering Key :-)
For Fenn and Mason it's hate at first sight..... until it's not. They are such a fun couple to read. Their irritation and verbal barbs to each other is much like flirting and friendly banter.
Mason's new life course is so far off course from what he was planning but he is stubborn and determined to do his job, at least until he finds a new one, but in the meantime the town folk and Fenn wind their way into his heart. Fenn struggles a lot with self worth, even with his family, but it definitely comes out stronger and in fighting talk towards the end.
It's a great relationship to read and they have a brilliant ride full of highs, lows and emotion. There is a fantastic community, full of the normal crazies you'd expect on an impoverished island and you can't help but love them all, even the uncle that seems to have no plan at all to save the island.
This was a lot of fun to read. The MC's and their relationship, the situation that they find themselves in right from the start, the family and towns folk sure do make it interesting! Cannot recommend enough and I'm looking forward to what comes next.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Tbh if there was no mention of the town, I’d have thought this was just another installment of the Love in O’Leary series. I absolutely adored Micah and Constantine, which seems to be the only reason I vaguely remembered who tf Mason was.

I am an absolute fan of the GFY trope, but this was a fucking mess imo. Honestly, until Beale mentioned it, I assumed Fenn was another irrational person, and not a broken and traumatized person. Once I got it, I kinda sympathized, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a story I completely found absolutely infuriating.

Everyone in this family took it upon themselves to misunderstand even the smallest conversations, turning simple statements into mountains of resentment. I particularly loathe Big Rafe for this.

The way the treasure was found was disappointingly anticlimactic, since I had expected the book to involve at least some treasure hunting - not just stories about it. Which reminds me, gold bars are freaking heavy - no way those sailors swam with a whole chest tied around the waist in a STORM (Honestly, this irked me the most. I hate when science flies out the window).

4 stars…
Not too shabby. Fenn and Mason were adorable. I of course love an uptight doctor who thinks he’s straight and a grumpy big man who can’t help but fall for him. Really enjoying this author and this little world I’m reading about. I’ve already read about Gage, Fenn, and Young Rafe now I just have Beale and Masons brother now. (Think I’m reading the whole world backwards but who cares)

2/5 on spice. 1/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. I really love when they are like just gay for their love interest.

I just didn’t feel as connected to Fenn and Mason as I hoped, though they do make a cute couple. I found the conclusion abrupt and the way the treasure was found on the island a bit too unrealistic.

May Archer is just really good at found families and small, close knit communities. The plot isn't anything special, but this was certainly an enjoyable read and I'll most likely keep reading the series when ever the sequel comes out and/or I happen to be in the need for a light and fluffy romance to take my mind off real life.

This was a nice read but it was pretty formulaic for the GFY/sexual awakening trope. At least the angst-filled breakup only lasted a millisecond.
