This is a second read for me and it’s just as haunting as I remembered. Ishiguro never fails to capture the struggle of what it means to be human in such an elegant way.

Once you get through the very laid out plot narration it is a truly beautiful and tragic story. the last 6 pages had me gasping for air. Also would you believe that i made it 50% through this book without realizing there is a movie adaptation starring andrew garfield, kiera knightly, and carry mulligan????

entirely bittersweet, an atmospheric read helmed by a first person narrative. the reveals are startling though never overblown. this book invites us to question what defines humanity and when we rob others of it how do they find ways back to their own agency? a haunting novel that truly earns its right in the gothic canon; it lingers with you like a time in childhood you can never go back to.
