This book was well planned and executed. This was a 3.5 for me, but I liked how hard Jeffries worked to actually show Byrne changing and giving into his HEA.
Besides the awkward, cliche filled beginning (with terrible characterization that actually undermined the well written h/h), and the horrendous epilogue, I enjoyed the whole book.
The whole plot setup is outlandish, but once you just go with it, Jeffries does a great job keeping you entertained within believable bounds.
Christabel (the name grows on you) isn't particularly memorable, but she was a fun character to follow throughout. A army brat, a crack shot, sheltered/near prudish but stubborn enough to change for a necessary reason.
We're told Byrne's a womanizer, has affairs with married women, discards them like tissues...blah blah blah...I've heard it all before. But how often do we meet these women? In mass? And our lovely heroine has to be awesome enough to deal with them constantly and managed to get the upper hand (which of course, is inevitable, since she should theoretically be 100x better than them).
There's a fair amount of whist playing going on that I particularly enjoyed because I love cards. Otherwise, the gambling bits might get a bit boring for you. Their "strip whist" game is pretty entertaining, though. I liked how the final showdown with the "bad guy" went.
Although the "burned mother still alive" was obvious from the first time he had to go take care of "urgent business" in Bast, I really enjoyed their trip there. The mother had wonderful plot points and you're getting to see Byrne almost involuntarily lay himself vulnerable.
The h/h were both resistant to each other in a good, relationship building way instead of a contrived plot way.
Ok, this was a bit rambly and unclear, but overall, a solid, fun read.

I've read some reviews where a reader didn’t like the book because they felt Gavin Byrne was too much of a rake and the heroine, Christabel, had to deal with his mistresses/one ex-fiancée throughout the book I didn’t mind that so much. Christabel could handle herself and did showing up many of the women that had previously slept with Gavin.
Christabel was a character that I related to so much for various reasons. First was that she was short and had curves the guys seemed to notice her breasts first and the fact that she had a face later, I could relate. Second she was raised around the military, so was I to a certain degree. Both of my Grandfathers were in the military, as were both of my Great Uncle’s. Third she wasn’t a refined/sophisticated woman in fact she was nervous about going into situations where she thought she’d have to be proper and formal. She was protective of her father, the whole reason she was introduced to Gavin was because she needed to get letters back that could get her father in hot water. And lastly she didn’t play games with Gavin to get gifts or money or anything like that, she was very straight forward about many things.
This is my second favorite of the trilogy, I enjoyed reading it, and it's definitely in my too read again pile.

I love Sabrina Jeffries!!!! One of my favorite romance authors.
One Night with a Prince
4 Stars
The son of the Prince Regent and a young actress, Gavin Byrne is the eldest of the Royal Brotherhood, and the one who despises his father the most. When his brothers request that he help the widowed Marchioness of Haversham, Christabel, retrieve some compromising letters, Gavin sees an opportunity to avenge himself. Christabel, however, has other plans and Gavin soon realizes that he will have to choose between his new found love or his long sought after revenge.
Gavin and Christabel have fantastic chemistry and their dialogue is witty and engaging. The conflict regarding the letters is interesting and leads to some intense moments at the villain's house party.
My one minor nitpick with the book is the number of former mistresses that Gavin has, which does not present him in a good light. Moreover, his treatment of them is more than a little hypocritical given his attitude towards Prinny.
Overall, a charming ending to the series and I look forward to reading more of Sabrina Jeffries works.

The naughtiest of the brothers. If you are not up for a bit of description, shocking situations, and sex/seduction scenes, you may want to pass on this one..., though you will miss the great interactions. I liked each of the books a bit more than the previous ones. I really liked Gavin and Christabel. I may just re-read this whole series at some point and have a copy for my shelf or on my Kindle.
4.5 stars.
Man, this was good! I love Byrne, with all his cynical, wicked, yet intriguing ways. Christabel was a force to be reckoned with as well. I appreciated her backbone, her skill with weapons, and her ability to tell Byrne like it was. And the chemistry in this novel, you guys!!!! It was so good! I just love Sabrina Jeffries' style. The side plot where Christabel and Byrne searched for the letters was intriguing, but really, I was just in this for the romance. I usually dislike books where the heroine is the mistress of the hero, but it helped that their arrangement started out as just pretend. I had a tiny issue with Byrne sometimes being a little childish and manipulative, but since both of these things was acknowledged by the characters(and really, Byrne was mostly all talk when it came to Christabel anyway), it didn't bother me too much.
This book was definitely my favorite in the series. I loved these characters, the chemistry between them, and the whole plot revolving around going to a rather wicked house party to find letters Christabel's father had in his possession that could see him hanged, as well as damage the prince. Also, there was a lot of whist in this book. I now wish I knew how to play. I feel another Sabrina Jeffries marathon coming on, that's for sure. It'll be hard to top this couple, though.
