"When marginal- ized people connect with, learn from, and build upon the efforts and struggles of those who came before, we inch ever closer to a new and better world."
Learnt a lot from a variety of exciting voices in this really well curated collection - it feels like a good handbook for allyship.

I always love reading personal experiences and this book is no exception. The mix of empowerment, dark reality, hope, and calls to action was really well done, and I’ve found some wonderful new voices to listen to more.

A wonderful collection of experiences and suggestions about improving LGBTQ+ rights, this is the most inclusive, intersectional collection that I've read and much the richer for that. The collection is not always an easy read as it shows how far we still have to go, sigh. I really enjoyed the mix between reflecting backwards at how far we have come alongside looking into the future. Spilt into sections covering Safety; Visibility; Dating, love and family; Health and social care; Beyond the binary; Community and organising. An inspiring and important book.
With thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Only 3.5 because I'm not a fan of non-fiction books. And some chapters where a bit heavy with homophobia/transphobia

An interesting and diverse collection of essays. I think for queer people this book acts as a good reminder about the broader spectrum of issues affecting lgbtqia+ people. It would also make a great introduction to these issues for people wanting to be better allies.

Really thought provoking essays from a variety of voices and identities which was great. My personal favourites were "Know thyself or don't" by Naoirse Dolan, "Pregnancy beyond gender" by Levi Hord, "Pronouns as portals" by Bobbi Salvor Menuez and "When it comes to gender, you're right" by Kate Bornstein. I felt some of the pieces felt a little repetitive covering very similar points on similar themes. I personally would have liked more of a focused academic approach that included personal accounts. I appreciate that not all the contributors are writers, but as a result I struggled to connect to some of the writing styles. However, it was important that these voices were heard in their words so I respect the decision. I definitely learnt a lot and finished the book feeling eager to do my part to drive some progress in the community.
